I haven't seen the film but I read the book on holiday last year.

Lots about her experience appealed to me - the solitude, the natural beauty, the opportunity to clear your head, the sense of achievement ... but no, I don't think I'd be brave enough to do something like that for real, not least because of all the physical discomfort she endured and the times, for example when she crossed ice fields, when her life was in real danger.

To be able to run fast would be good. Or faster than a bear anyway

Or you could always go with a slow companion

Do you think the Fox that kept appearing was like the sprite of her mum ?

Like I said, I haven't seen the film but think, from memory, that that is how she saw this fox, as her mum's spirit ... though IIRC, I don't think it *kept* appearing throughout the book though. Sounds like that was a device to remind the viewer how often she thought about her mum.

It's really good movie. Would love to do something like that also but don't think I'd be able to be alone with my thoughts

I think that's the appeal you would have plenty of time with your thoughts ,and a chance to cleanse your mind

I'd love to just go off on long hike not sure about just that long but I'm not brave enough to do it on my own plus I'd have to take Fred to carry by bags.

I know, but I'm a wimp, and not very strong. Even my 13 year old is stronger than me
