But sex on tap is not always guaranteed in a relationship is it? I suppose those in relationships should answer this one, maybe those who don't like to be alone like the companionship, someone to share things with, etc.

Depends on how fine you are with your own company, I guess. Some people like the space, some people like to share it. Horses for courses.

Erm...

Someone to eat your amazing cooking so it doesn't go in the bin because you made too much and you don't want to freeze it because it tastes weird after that.

Or someone to shave your flange.

My ex was my best friend before it went down south. A common goal and purpose and having someone to watch out for you - and you them - is nice.

I don't mind doing any of these things for myself and was a single parent for almost ten years. Nut when the right person comes along, negatives are so minor that they can be dismissed. I haven't found this with anyone else though ...

A relationship doesn't have to mean living together. We don't, but our relationship is about encouraging and supporting each other, caring, sharing, taking an interest, enjoying vanilla stuff and great sex. X

I get a lot out of my relationship.

I get someone to talk to when I want to talk.

I get someone to cook with (read "for") me when I'm hungry.

I get someone who wants lots of sex, with me.

I get someone who has a different _iew of the world who can help inform my opinions.

I get someone who is intelligent and willing to share the knowledge.

I get companionship when I'm lonely and space when I want it.

I get someone to share travel, showers, fun, quiet times, holidays, and sleep with.

I have someone there when I'm sick who helps make me better.

I can't spell it all out here, but I was happy being alone and happier being with Marc. It all comes down to your personality and what makes you happiest.

There are advantages to being in a relationship as there are advantages to being single.

After being with Hilary for 25 years I shudder at the thought of ever being single again.

But I thoroughly enjoyed being single when I was.

Sex on tap doesn't really enter the equation as there are times when one or either of us can't be bothered.

Having someone to share your thoughts, hopes and dreams and your secrets with. We all have things we don't confide in others and a good relationship is trusting in them enough to open up.

And cuddles too

It depends on the relationship surely.

I've witnessed some that have no discernible advantages.

If you're in a good relationship I think the main advantage is as Victoria Wood said

When you say 'damn I've left the tomatoes on the back seat of the car's

They say

'Have you're

It's the ordinariness not the remarkable things that make it worth it.

Some people have it stronger than others, this 'bonding' thing, same as some animals do. In horses it's the herd instinct, the desire for unity - you can nurture that and develop it and create something quite magical. I find it very fulfilling to know and be known fully - to share everything, hide nothing.

There needs to be some excitement though. I read a quote on Facebook today

We laughed because that is us

However just to spice things up and add some excitement we shampooed the carpet and ran the dehumidifier all day

yeah, i've stayed in abusive relationships because of it, but i feel like i'm getting somewhere in understanding myself and one ex (who i'm still friends with) set a better standard of guys for me to go off since him.

dunno, think i feel like all guys are just users and liars and this is in the back of my head always now. need to practice being 'friends' with more men who are not liars/users before moving up a stage with them.

I'd like someone other than my kids to think of me as the bees knees.

Life and all it throws at you can be an exhausting and downtrodden road to to travel on your own sometimes.

A cuddle after a spectacularly shit day, someone to run a bath, someone who makes you laugh, understands you, is there for you emotionally as well as physically, who makes the shopping trip to Tesco a bit more fun. They kill spiders, aren't afraid of a broken panel on the fence. They're romantic.

Yeah i could do with that sometimes.

For me it's lots of different things that make our relationship so special.

I have someone who knows me better than I know myself. Someone to share everything with. We have silly little things that we do or say that no one else understands but make us both laugh. I fall asleep with my head on hubby's shoulder, holding his hand every night. Every morning, before he leaves for work, he brings me a cuppa in bed. We sit watching to in the evening, again holding hands. He gives the best cuddles!

But most of all, the bond we share is something very special. A bond that despite my previous 5 year marriage, I had never experienced before. I'm very lucky

I don't think it sounds sad or weird. Look at the number of people on here solely due to mismatched sex drives within their relationship. Better to know yourself and what your priorities are before you embark on a relationship. The problem is as you've identified that sex won't a relationship together in the long term. I think you've answered your own question when you say that you need to be friends with more men before you embark on anything sexual, quite how you achieve that I'm not sure.

I don't think there is an advantage just a different dynamic. Pretty sure relationship isn't all about sex, someone to share the journey of life with ideally someone with similar values.

Yeah, I was wondering that too

this is my basis for any relationship. someone who has a high sex drive. might sound weird or even sad but it's how every relationship i've had has started.

I don't think it sounds sad or weird. Look at the number of people on here solely due to mismatched sex drives within their relationship. Better to know yourself and what your priorities are before you embark on a relationship. The problem is as you've identified that sex won't a relationship together in the long term. I think you've answered your own question when you say that you need to be friends with more men before you embark on anything sexual, quite how you achieve that I'm not sure.

i just take sex out of the equation, that's how. i know how to make friends, just got trust issues to sort but every time i prove myself right with choices those issues become lesser."

"I have a very good relationship with my daughter. I don't need a man to feel complete."

I feel complete without anyone else. A relationship is about doing things with someone else, rather than alone, for me. I've only had one proper relationship, which was very unbalanced.b

Oh I love the whole 'no safety net' total trust and commitment that comes with a good relationship as much as good sex - I would like to take the handbrake totally off and give my all in every aspect of life. Love the closeness too - like the feeling I get with my horse when we can just feel each others thoughts without communicating them. Yumm!

i like the idea of this. just the idea though for now.

all given good answers really, most of the stuff people mentioned i get that from people in my life, feel lucky i do as well.

it's funny coz i thought i would've jumped at the chance of a relationship but i'm just meh about it now i could have one.

Some people have it stronger than others, this 'bonding' thing, same as some animals do. In horses it's the herd instinct, the desire for unity - you can nurture that and develop it and create something quite magical. I find it very fulfilling to know and be known fully - to share everything, hide nothing.

"

Id never be so trusting as to let anyone know absoloutely everything about me, once you do that you are extremely vulnerable. I prefer to be independent and only let people know what I want them to know.

I suppose it depends what kind of a relationship you have, ive only ever had one relationship in my life and it was that bad ive been single for 9 years with no intention of being in another, so for me its hard to see anything positive about a relationship because ive never experienced anything good to miss, i always think its best to stay single

I echo the sentiment about there not really being any advantages.

We are together not because it is advantageous to be so but because we want to share our lives with one another.

"I get a lot out of my relationship.

It all comes down to your personality and what makes you happiest."

I think we're fed a diet of ' and they lived happily ever after' from early on and it gives us unrealistic expectations. I reckon it's a matter of luck if you end up with someone you're properly compatible with over a long period of time and too many of us rely on 'romantic' love which just isn't enough to sustain two people through some of the rubbish that life dishes out.

One up on me. I've always wanted one but never had one but maybe it's made me explore more of life and the world than I would of if I was in a relationship or maybe not the only way to find out is to be in one, but their has to be a balance an equality to start it off on the right foot. I always see people and know them, in relationships and it's my opinion that they are happier and their lives are richer and less frivolous because when everythings stripped away they have each other

He must not be! Sex on tap is good at the beginning, but there's soooo much more to a relationship than that and if you don't want to spend every minute with him regardless of what you're doing then it's certainly not love!

Someone who sees your Flaw's and understands them and loves you all the more because they recognise that they are what makes you, you.

Someone who always has your back and you feel their support and presence even when they are not with you.

Someone who makes you want to be the best possible version of you that you can be, to be a better person because you know you already are for having them in your life and you are so grateful for that.

Someone that makes none of it is an effort because it comes naturally and feels so right.

Someone that appreciates your independence as it is part of your togetherness.

Someone that loves you all the more on the toughest day's and when you look back at that tough day you smile because of their support.

Someone who you gladly give your all to in return.

I wouldn't take relationship advice from this site to be honest. Some relationships develop over time, not with a lightning bolt. If there are warning signs however its good to be wary.

Mr does my head in at times, and I'd quite happily strangle him.

But

He is also my best friends, puts up with my shit and issues, loves me unconditionaly, never judges me and knows me better than I know myself.

So although there are negatives, the positives outweigh those.

We've been together 19 years (half my life) and are both still very much in love and I can't imagine a life where he's not in it x

A heathy relationship still doesn't guarantee sex whenever you want it. People have different sex drives, both partners aren't always in the sexy mood at the same time. Or maybe you just insist on your women letting you have sex when you want it regardless of whether they are in the mood for it or not.

Interesting question, I shall answer with waht I'd think was good rather than what I've had previously.

Snuggles on tap, shared chores, laughing and feeling like someone really cares.

Find that and I'd even consider it

So although there are negatives, the positives outweigh those.

"Less money worries (assuming you can find a woman with a decent job), sex/intamacy when you want.

And biggest a confidant you can trust to talk to more fully than a normal friend

Sexy when you want? I do love your humour

Guess I've only had healthy relationships.

A heathy relationship still doesn't guarantee sex whenever you want it. People have different sex drives, both partners aren't always in the sexy mood at the same time. Or maybe you just insist on your women letting you have sex when you want it regardless of whether they are in the mood for it or not.

A healthy relationship involves finding somone youre compatible with in my mind.

And i did say intamacy too, youre the one focusing purely on sex.

"

People change over time, things happen in life, circumstances change. All of these things can affect sex and intimacy, but perhaps you've never been in a relationship long enough to realise this, after all you're just a young man.

"But sex on tap is not always guaranteed in a relationship is it? I suppose those in relationships should answer this one, maybe those who don't like to be alone like the companionship, someone to share things with, etc."

My recent experience meant I had less sex in a long term relationship than a casual lover!

Ok, for me the benefits include... Sunday afternoon DVD, going to social events (especially weddings!), someone to lift heavy furniture or unscrew a jar and someone to scratch my back or pick up milk as we've run out. Oh, and nice to have a other half if going on a long car journey or have a dinner party. Blimey, long old list!!! Xxx

People panic snd think they wont find somone or dont realise it till later.

I think as you get older though you mature and learn to end it so you can both go and find somone better suited to you.

When your young though yeah silly mistakes abound.

But saying that my parents met at 17 and are still happily together at 70 and my older brother met his gf at 17 and just proposed at 30.

i was happy to settle as well, didn't really think there was such a thing as a perfect relationship.

sometimes i think most relationships are only temporary anyway. they teach you something and you move onto to someone else who will teach you more. not sure yet, coming to all kinds of contradictory conclusions about stuff.

He must not be! Sex on tap is good at the beginning, but there's soooo much more to a relationship than that and if you don't want to spend every minute with him regardless of what you're doing then it's certainly not love!

I have never cheated on him, not him me, and I feel no need to cheat. I have everything I need in our marriage but swinging is something we've chosen to do together just to mix things up a bit.

We have rough patches, but we deal with them together. And we take turns at being the strength the other needs.

Relationships are a joint effort so as long as both parties put in that effort, and don't run as soon as things get tough (obviously depending on what it is) then if its worth it, it will be x

Ha! Advantages? You can write a list longer than your arm. Thing is though, for every advantage, you could add a disadvantage. So how do you weigh it all up? Well simply, you don't. There is no logic in love and relationships. You meet someone and you take it from there. Throw caution to the wind and enjoy the ride. If you are currently single and have thoughts that you may want to meet someone and are considering leaving singledom. Don't think about it too much. There is no formula to it all, everyone is different. Follow your heart. Good luck OP
