I class myself as a professional because I have to pay sodding loads of money every year to a chartered institute. It's not particularly relevant to me on here so it's not something I have on my profile, but it doesn't put me off if others choose to describe themselves as such. |

I have a "profession", since it has no relevance to this site, it's not on our profile.
I imagine people put it up to attract those with whom they feel they will have more in common, no need for anyone to get uptight about it. |

It's something I kind of scan over in a profile ... it's a bit of a cover all general term these days.
A persons profession, their social standing and their material wealth are not things I look for in a sex partner.
I'd be more interested that we had similar morals, ethics and outlook so that any pre-amble conversations were not uncomfortable. |

I've always considered myself a working class oik, degenerating from a middle class up bringing. Was recently told however that my job qualified me as a "professional" in terms of being able to confirm a passport application. I feel so important, lol. |

"Someone who has to not only has to wear business dress to work but also compromising their true identity on here may affect their career and cast doubt over their professionalism and conduct."
That's true, if I really was a "professional", I might have to give a shit about getting caught on here as a pose to working somewhere that there's so much shagging going on already that no one could really say anything if they found out.
I now realise how lucky I am to be unimportant. |

I've seen on a lot of demanding profiles. Many seems to use it as a marker of ''I'm a professional. I want to harvest virtues that are connoted with that term so l look better. I don't meet plebs. Send me a witty message so I can enjoy a good guffaw"
Some people are impressed l suppose. |

Iceland, but Aldi is closer.. |
If you have a profession, ie, a qualification, that makes you a professional or if you are employed to do a task as a job rather than as an amateur, that too makes you a professional,
Therefore, anyone in gainful employment can be classed as a professional, from a prostitute to a lawyer..
However, probably a bad choice of trades as both fuck people for money.. |

Just to clarify, I'm not lumping wealthy people with those that use "Professional" on a profile for points with other pretensious people.
As the list of Professionals shows, many aren't well paying. |

Same here! I signed my ex's passport and it will expire this year in June, glad he's not able to have anymore holidays from something I helped him get!
I'm still able to sign passports and now I only work on reception in a gym but I'm still employed by bcbc which is the council, and still classed as a civil servant. I've been a civil servant for the last 12 years, DWP, HMP and now CBC.

Professional is a less self consious way of saying middle class. It inferrs a certain social status, with out the perceived vulgarity of implying wealth. It indicates engagement/partipation with the knowledge economy and hence a certain intellectual cachet. To some extent class is becomming less about wealth and more about influence and participation with the sharing and generation of knowledge. |
