Well that woman that had twins at 67 has just died at 69. I just think its selfish.
I completely agree with any help for anyone who cannot have children naturally but once a woman goes through the change naturally ( i dont mean prematurely) then they should no longer be able to get help. |

Nature does things to a womans body to prevent her having children after a certain age for a reason
I know the urge to have a baby can take over your life and there are great medical interventions that can help
But I don't like the idea of pensioners having children it does'nt seem right to me

It doesn't matter what age they appear to be - they were old even if they didn't look old
Unfortunately I fell asleep before the end and never got to see if that crazy old fool, the retired zooolgist, managed to get IVF
I hope the stupid old goat didn't, cos lets be fair, no matter how young you look, if you are old in years, you are old - simple as that and you are going to die realtively soon, or at the least be ill and dependant on your kid to look after you - UNFAIR!! - So at best the kid can look forward to being a carer at a very young age and at worst can look forward to having no-one to bring them up because the single, selfish old goat has died leaving the kid an orphan
It's a fucking disgrace and I think any IVF clinic who hasn't got ethics enough to deny these old fools treatment need to be closed down without delay and the people behind the clinics prosecuted ..... |

We watched that prog and although we feel the same as diamond regarding nature removing a woman's ability to have children after a certain age you have to look closely at the culture of India/Pakistan where a childless woman carries so much stigma - the 70y/o woman who had a baby had visitors arriving unnannounced and leaving them with cash and their best wishes. In a poverty-stricken country like I say it speaks volumes about how children are perceived as the icing on the cake.
In the UK, we have 15y/o gymslip mother's and we condemn them for it, we have trailer trash couples having litters of children and expect the welfare state to pick up the tab for it and we have women having lots of children with different men. The woman in Pakistan on that programme had yearned for a child with her husband for years and years. Who is right and who is wrong?
The children produced by these artificial methods to women who will most likely pass away a few years later will bear the stigma attached with having a pensioner for a mother. But I suspect the case may be quite different in other areas of the world where the birth of a child is considered to be one of life's pinnacles of achievement rather than yet another burden to the state. |

But it's true - nature's (or the government's) way of controlling the population |

Its like the woman who was pregnant with octuplets and lost them all because she would'nt choose to have some taken away to save at least a couple of them
we are not designed to have litters of children |

you go against mother nature at your peril.....there is a very good reason why women lose their fertility.....having a child and nurturing it for its first 10 - 20 years is a tiring and time consuming job...dont get me wrong, I have two beautiful boys and loved every minute of their growing up...but its no job for someone over 60....E xx |

Very true china is only permitted one child or it's huge amount to pay out to there government for a second which brings me to this question .We get so many different nationalitys coming to uk it's so unreal were also crouded for housing ,jobs and space why do we let others in as to where other countrys won't .I myself have nothing against it but other coy ttys should be more leanient like us or we shouldn't .Then again saying that some of us have foreign husbands or wives where would we be without them the two governments from either side make it so difficult to be together with there laws . |

Well from 35+ the risks of giving birth to a child with, Autism, Down syndrom and several other problems, starts to rapidly spiral so god help the risk your running at 70+..
Once saw a program with a 50+ yr old woman, paying a ton to get pregnant, everytime the tests came back that Down syndrom was likely, or another birth defect, she aborted and started all over again, she was on her 6th+ attempt!!!

Got to be honest here and say If was a kid and born to a 70yr old I would be a little embarrassed to have an 80yr old mum at 10 years of age.
I know people have reasons for having kids late but you do have to think of the offspring.

Yes, of course, shall we start with your dear old mum or dad eh? What a stupid thing to say, even in jest.
Does a 70y/o on his or her deathbed fight for the last breath the same as 30y/o would? I tend to think that the individual will grasp on to life for as long as possible.... and a woman who, through medical means, be granted her lifetime wish of bearing a child will take that opportunity if presented to her. Who is to say it is wrong? It's right for her.
My gut instinct is that she should have had her children when she was younger but, as Siren pointed out while we watching the programme, maybe the right man just never presented himself and she didn't want to have a child with a man she didn't love. That has to be commendable, doesn't it? |
