Vaping and dry skin/chapped lips

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

I'm about to enter my 3rd week off the cigarettes but using my vape and the last few days my bottom lip has been really chapped. I thought it was down to the cold weather but I've endured loads of cold weather in my lifetime and haven't had chapped lips since I went skiing with the school when I was 12.

Also my face is so dry like I've actually got flakes off skin I can peel off and it's only happened since I've been using the vape.

Bit of googling and apparently vaping makes you really really dehydrated and to someone that's prone to dry skin but keeps it under control with normal moisturisers, this is really bad.

Gonna have to come off the vape now, never had this problem when I smoked actual fags!

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Try drinking more water, using a different moisturiser and reducing the vaping until you're off it. Cigarettes aren't good for you and the long term of effects of vaping aren't yet known.

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

Its steam that's coming out so no worse than steaming your face when you have a head cold. However I would persevere with the e-cig before going back on the fags, and just change your skin regime.

Personally I've vaped for 3 years and, although I do get chapped lips, I've not had any skin problems.

Hubby has recently changed to vaping and is suffering with really bad throats right now

He is persevering as he doesn't want to go back to fags but doesn't look good to me

It does take a while for the body to not only get used to vaping, but get used to no longer having to process the shit in fags. I noticed more illnesses just after I finished smoking as my lungs coughed up the shit in there. Also vaping is harder on the throat - all tests so far have pointed towards that being the most affected. Again though, in comparison to smoking, its nowhere near as bad.

I might be partisan but even I know its not an ideal alternative to giving up altogether. However it is much, much better for you than smoking, so worth carrying on.

I have been looking at whether I should allow vaping breaks and stop people from going out for cigarette breaks at work. We don't have 'break' times so non-smokers remain at their desks working and smokers just go out so it would be creating official breaks for some, but vaping is better than smoking (as far as we know) and turning a blind eye to smoking on work premises, albeit the outside bits, doesn't feel like good welfare management.

Maybe hour body and skin are re-adjusting healing after giving up cigs.

Maybe the healthy cell turover in your skin as it tries to get rid of the pallid grey unhealthy shitty skin that was once before?

Now the new healthy skin is coming through

It won't be long before Vaping is available on the NHS...then the real fun begins with the legislation.

The joys!

Do you not have lunch breaks? We don't allow smokers / vapers to pop out as it's unfair on the non-smokers.

Has anyone on here who used a vape to quit smoking actually quit using the vape or have you just substituted one for the other?

We have lunch breaks but custom and practise means that smokers also have these additional breaks.

I was reflecting, to my young assistant, that I have worked through people smoking at their desks, then me having to create smoking rooms (property was much cheaper then ), to creating open areas for smokers to now considering banning all smoking.

I feel old.

I rather enjoy vaping so It's more a hobby. Smoking wise...was not for me.

Have been partial to the occasional Monte Cristo too.

Shisha is also fun

I remember those days too ~ smoking at my desk only having to stub it out when a customer approached. Then having a designated smoking time of on the hour every hour. It's madness when I think of it now!!

I think if vaping was around when I quit I would now be a vaper as it ticks all the boxes from the initial inhalation to having something to hold & suck.

I'd ban people from making cups of tea and coffee too then. Some seem to fake bloody ages to make a cup and for those of us who don't drink hot drinks at work, it's very unfair

I've been Vaping for 4 months now, and can honestly say not suffered with dry/chapped lips at all.

First time I've heard of anyone suffering with it too.

I'd guess maybe it's something to do with the type of vape your using, the voltage your running at, or/and the juice which may be causing it?

I don't drink tea and coffee and it does seem to take up a lot of time, create a lot of mess (why do people have to leave tag bags and used spoons on the counter?), and annoyance if the brands bought change for whatever reason. However, we all need some social interactions and spaces for that in work so I tolerate it.

Whilst we're at it let's ban people going for a poo, some take absolutely ages, very unfair for those that only wee during office hours.

What about tea drinking smokers? They'd never be doing any work at all

Smokers and vapers have to clock out when they go for a fag at my work, same as I do if I want to leave the building for any reason. I'd be pretty pissed off if they didn't, to be honest!

Personally I'm totally against vaping. I tried it for a week and its the only time in my life I've found my throat bleeding. Its never done it before and never again since. It doesn't sit right that its good for you in any way, maybe try patches for the nicotine and celery to keep your hands and mouth busy?

Most places see it as smoking.

Some places are a little more relaxed about it.

Bit of a grey area, but at least it don't smell or leave a horrible after taste

I was the same. It wasn't an addiction really at any stage. I tried to drop to 0mg and it wasn't the same, then one day I realised how quickly I was getting through juice. If it wasn't costing so much, I wouldn't have stopped. I finished what I had, put my mods down and left it at that.

Edinburgh

I'm really very lucky at work. I used to nip out twice a day for a ciggie. The office manager used to get arsey about it but quite frankly I put in enough hours that he can go fuck himself.

Still... now I'm a non-smoker... let me just say that again... now that I'm a non-smoker, I don't go out any more and the only part of that I think I miss is the mid afternoon fart!

I make coffee now but that's only been the last few years and before I could actually go outside - round the block and smoke two cigs in the time it takes some of our lot to leave their teabags on the side in the kitchen. I bought them a teabag bin cause I couldn't fucking bear it any longer. Lazy bastards.

Anyway... I digress (probably the wine) from my point, I've no idea what point I was making incidentally but yes... stop smoking. Don't replace one habit with another. It's just an excuse. You don't need it. You smell. You're wasting money. I don't want to be one of those wanky ex smokers but I've dumped a 30 year, 20 ish a day habit because I don't want to die.

I loved to smoke. I liked the art of smoking. I liked the habit and ritual of it. But now I'm not ruling my life round when my next cigarette will be. In 27 days I've saved £270 or thereabouts. I don't even want to consider the money that I might as well have set fire to.

You can kick it. If you really want to kick it. You will.
