Being Filmed without Consent

Not sure where to go with this or the legality of it but myself and my GF, whom I'm sadly no longer with met someone on here (whose name I won't divulge just yet) a few years ago at there place. I have just found out the whole meet and meets with others from Fab have been recorded without consent. Anybody got any advice because to be honest I'm fuming.

Google is enlightening. It seems you have a reasonable expectation to not be filmed, although it seems to change depending on whether you're in his house or he's in yours. He does not have rights to distribute the film without your permission so you might want to bring that up with him.

How far are you willing to go though?

Exactly.. I'm a bit stunned at the moment and possibly a bit naive about trusting people when they say they will be discrete. They said they filmed it for their own protection. Not sure how filming it, apart from being used as evidence, would protect them if someone had intent to cause trouble at a meet.

I don't understand. This person is filming meets without people's consent. Each to their own but some people have a lot to lose if they footage gets into the wrong hands. Surely people are better forewarned??

It depends on what he's using it for. If it never sees the light of day, I don't think you have much of a case. But its bad when you have no idea when it might pop up.

You have a reasonable expectation of not being filmed. I assume it was at his house as its unlikely you'd not notice him setting up his gear. So all you can do is make it clear what you will do if the film is distributed. You might want to get legal advice from a more reliable source though.

This is a bit of a grey area really...

There is the cctv act which states you must be informed you are entering an area with cameras that are recording you.

Then there is consent to be recorded or taped which without its a violation of personal rights

I would say report to mods and speak to CAB to find out if you can actually have the tapes seized

If you have seen the footage yourselves or through a third party site go to the police & they will investigate.

If its just a rumor & nobody as seen footage to collaborate it actually exists it could be a costly court battle...try the police first.

Yes without proper model releases signed by the people & photo i.d. the films will be seized by the police, action against him won't be possible unless the footage was used to embarrass or discredit you.
