I buy mine direct from Germany off ebay, but I buy 250m rolls at a time, you may or may not require that much

May be a bit excessive for my current requirements but would save money on ties most likely.

I apologise if you know the rope you want but if not I would suggest attending a local social meet and a peer rope meet to decide which kind of rope you prefer. Talk to people about how they use their rope and the type they have.

If you just want to tie as in western style bondage then cheap synthetic rope from B&Q or hempex will do. If you are looking to provide an experience then try cotton rope, jute or hemp. I would suggest the latter two as they tend to be used by lovers of Japanese based bondage styles.

The choice is personal preference between the two. Although both vary in quality depending on treatment and will vary in price. As mentioned earlier you can buy your own rope untreated and do it yourself. If you decide not to treat it yourself the cost will vary, buying from a brand rigger such as Esinem will be more expensive and feel better than rope bought off the Internet.

I would recommend try before you buy. I thought I would love hemp but found I preferred jute. However because my rope at the end of the session ends on the floor and is used erotically in a scene it needs washing after. So I use hempex more than the others solely for ease of washing.

Good luck

Gosport

Mainly from suppliers of arborists and chandlers but occasionally directly from hammock makers. I tend to want very lightweight, hollow core Dynema ropes.

Anatomie Studio www.anatomiestudio.com has a shop. Good authentic Shibari rope, so not cheap. They also sell rope treatments though and will give you advice on how to make it last. I recommend it.

The softer coloured stuff from other sites is ok if you're going for decorative tying but don't use it for suspension and bear in mind it fades with washing so only looks properly good for three or four goes.

With respect suspension is about understanding the safe working load of the type of rope and minimum breaking strength of rope. Different types of rope have different strengths and any respectable rope seller will have suitable rope. More important is to be sufficiently skilled and experienced to be suspending.
