I can be incredibly extrovert at work when I need to be but then I come home and hide in a quiet corner under a blanket and rock quietly with a mug of tea until calm is restored |

Nope i'm very much an introvert. Happiest on my own and i am very socially awkward and give off an air of aloofness apparently.
As i get older i find it pretty impossible to make friends because, i just can't be bothered. I'm pretty rubbish at keeping in touch. It's not intentional, it's just how i am. I also find it exhausting being around people who talk to much (which is ironic given the length of my forum posts).
Although if i have to be with people i prefer them lively and outgoing as it takes the pressure off me.
I'm very hard going to talk to in person.

I would say I am extrovert i am quite loud and very out going when in groups, but I love my own company too, and love sitting in silence on my own, or just setting off with the dogs for hour of my own company, wouldn't say that makes me introvert though, |

Classic introvert here. I like going out and meeting people in small bursts then need a couple of days to recharge. There is an excellent TED talk on this

I'm on the cusp according to Myers Briggs. I have become less extrovert as I've grown older, thinking before I speak and taking time alone to recharge my batteries. |

"Introverted extrovert. "
Can do an extrovert impression, but it is very draining. Apparently, extroverts are energised by social situations. The point is, many workplaces cater well for extroverts, but many people are ill-served by this, and need quiet to work... |

I have to agree with what you say, I seem to go shy with people until I get to know them and I do enjoy my own space and time alone. |

This this this! I can be the chattiest person with someone then go days without saying a word. Again, it's not intentional, it's just how I am. |

I think most people love a bit of alone time, doesn't make them introverted |

Like most things, we are all somewhere on a spectrum. |

Indeed but for someone to say you are introvert just because you like time away from the crowd seems at best a massive generalisation and bullshit to me |

"'You're quiet'
'Why don't you talk more'
'Shy'
All the things thrown my way
Yep, had all these too"
Introvert and same as above.
Also been told to shut up got being so loud when not said a word. Does nothing for confidence just makes you the punchline to their joke |

In large groups of people I tend to clam up and the noisier people are, the quieter I become.
Someone will always make a remark, asking what's wrong with me which makes it worse.
I get uneasy in noisy groups of people and need to get away and have some time alone.

Somewhere in between. Every day of my working life is spent alone and i'm happy with that. It doesn't make me crave human company but if the need arrises i can fit seemlessly into social gatherings - not that i get invited to many. |

Jeez! I'm an awkward fecker. I can be solitary and content and yet when with others I can also be a gregarious companion. Both and neither then, I guess |

"I'm a puzzle wrapped in a riddle and encapsulated in an enigma.
Depends on a lot of things.
The bell-weather to my state of mind on any one given day is what underwear I'm wearing. "
I have lucky boxers, worn on work days when I am required to flaunt myself uncharacteristically. |
