The Council of Elrond

What is everyone's favourite movie they have sat down to watching thinking you probably wont like it bought by the end of the movie you love it

Mines has to be ''We bought a zoo''

Best line in the movie '' you only need 20 seconds of insane courage'' Which is so true people should really take a leap of faith with things and you never know what can happen.

Mine would be a low budget Canadian horror/thriller called Cube

A bunch of strangers with amnesia all wake up and have to navigate a series of identical rooms to try and escape. Along the way several meet their fates to booby traps and you learn more about the labyrinth that contains them

Great fun for 90 mins and the two sequels are good fun too

Chester

The Martian.

I typically wouldn't like films like that for two reasons, one the idea of being in that situation seriously upsets me - I have possibly too much empathy going on. Two, the science in things like that is usually shockingly bad.

Safe to say I was surprised on both fronts - a cracking film that I've rewatched loads of times.

Passengers was a surprise thought provoking movie.

Oh and if you can figure it out arrival is good too.

If we are talking hidden gems then give This is the end a watch.

I obviously couldn't figure it out then because I thought arrival was awful

I don't why or even if it should have been a surprise, but I thought Star Wars Rogue One was very good.

Ricki and the flash. I've watched it three times already and have downloaded Meryl Streep's cover of My Love Will Not Let You Down.

I loved Trolls too. It's one of the big advantages of having grandchildren.

Manchester

Edge Of Tomorrow (also called Live, Die, Repeat)

Thought it was just going to be 2 hours of Tom Cruise running around blowing shit up but to my pleasant surprise it was him that was getting repeatedly shot/ blown up/ crushed etc. Very funny and entertaining film. Tom's great in it too.

Too many to mention. But these days I tend to enjoy the indie movies than the blockbusters and find them to be surprisingly good.

I know the one. The very first Tom Cruise film I know to pass under the radar.

Tropic Thunder-hilarious, didn't even recognise Tom Cruise until well into the movie.

The Intouchables-based on a true story. We didn't realise it was in French and subtitled. Nearly walked out straight away, but gave it 20 mins, and glad we did. Excellent and moving film.
