road rage

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

Was just the victim of road rage because the guy in front of me wanted to go 20mph on a 40mph road, I appreciate that in poor weather people like to drive with more care but this guy was just breaking for the sake of breaking, soon enough the guy started swearing at me while going even slower (I wasn't driving up his arse either). Then when we got to the end of the road and I was turning right to his left he started hurling verbal abuse at me. I like to think of myself as a safe driver but found his driving more of a danger than driving stupidly fast.

I get this all the time. The other day i was coming home from work. Driving along an A road with a 60mph limit.. The guy in front was doing 30-35mph. Braking ever time a vehicle came toward us. Before I would've cracked lol but now I'm a lot more chilled and I just realise there are people who see and react to things differently. So I listen to Classic FM and chill in the car. It really makes a difference for me. I still hate shit drivers though! I just don't let them bother me anymore.

Story of my life I beeped a woman who was In front. That was applying eye makeup whist stopped at traffic lights on a green light. She screamed fuck up and carried on with her makeup.

Why not just over take?

There may be an issue with his car.

I onxe had a buckled break disk and was going cautiously incase it seized up in 2 miles or so i had left to get it home (forgot the disk lock was on)

Did not appreciate the idiot sat 2 foot off my rear wheel when they could have easily over taken.

If you have a issue with your car and need to drive slowly you should put on the warning lights to indicate slow moving vehicle.

I try to avoid overtaking on a single carriage way

While I get annoyed at people who do what the OP said..And agree that driving excessively slow can cause accidents by people taking risks to get past...I sometimes like to go well below the speed limit..BUT when I see traffic behind me I pull over to let them past as I know how annoying it is!

So you weren't driving up his arse, or displaying any agressive behaviour yourself? I'm very confused as to why he would start swearing and 'raving' at you for no apartment reason then?

Slow drivers are more of a danger then fast drivers. They cause frustration and lead to people taking risks in overtaking.

The only time I've done that is when I had 27 miles on the range and had 31 miles to go until the next Petrol station at the motorway services.

I'd missed the previous one miles back up the M1.

In any case, I'm pretty sure he was doing it just to specially annoy you.

There is a retard up my street that drives everywhere in first gear, He will not pull out from a junction, unless the road is absolutely clear in both directions, of any moving vehicle, you can see in both directions at least half a mile.

I could actually get out my car, go back home. mow the lawn, bake a cake, and the fucking idiot is still there waiting to pull out.

I was having a conversation the other day about people driving slow on purpose. I do it if somebody is up my arse. Or i put my hazards on. I hate it when people are too close. It's dangerous. Don't these people wonder why they keep encountering drivers that are doing the speed limit then suddenly start to go slower.

I get that slow drivers can be frustrating - I experienced it on Sunday.

I can accept that some people are cautious though, so long as it's not so slow as to be dangerous or makes other drivers life overly difficult/

The drivers I hate are ones who go at 40/50mph whatever the speed limit. Last summer, my commute was 45mins long and the speed limit changed very often. I'd often have drivers tailgate me in 30mph, only for them to disappear in the rear view mirror when I reached the 60mph zone. On some occasions that would repeat for the whole journey.

I passed a woman on the A14 that was doing 35mph and causing a tail back. When I passed her I realised her predicament. She was eating a bowl of cereal and obviously didn't want to spill it bless her.

Trouble with people constantly breaking and slowing down for no reason what so ever is you have a tenancy to get close behind I'll always try and back off this could be why he done it.

Either way leaning out of his window attempting to punch my car isn't acceptable regardless.

Tractors in the countryside (and convoys of tractors) will tootle along for miles at around 20-30mph. If you don't over-take, you better have all the time in the world to get to your destination!

If anyone tried this with me.... I would stop my car, apply the handbrake and get out and go over to them. Not acceptable to try and punch someone's car. Mind you, as I live in the country, my car is always covered in mud, so most people avoid it.

If you have a issue with your car then you should pull off the road at the earliest and safest location. Hazards aren't for use when simply driving along the road

So in this situation its now no longer that you dont over take on single carrige ways (the vast vast vast majority of all roads in the country) to not ovet taking on blind bends.

Two wildly differnt points

Granted makes me sound indecisive. But I mean on a country lane I wouldn't want to overtake due to the dangers involved. However on a road which is clear with no blind spots I'd overtake but only if needed not because the car in front was doing speed limit and I wanted to go faster

It's equally annoying when a couple/several cars behind a slow vehicle won't overtake, even when it's clear and straight in good conditions.

Maybe they just don't want to overtake. It's not compulsory to do so.

People are so angry behind the wheel these days.

Breathe, relax, there should never be a need to rush around. Poor journey planning causes rushing, in turn, causing anger and impatience.

But they'll all tail gate each other and the slow vehicle thus becoming a multi car rolling road block.

If they kept thier distance people could safley bunny hop the line.

Apart, of course, from the fact that it is an offence to have hazard lights flashing on a moving vehicle.

The best thing to do in such circumstances, is to stop such vehicle in a safe place and make arrangements for it to be recovered safely.

Driving with defective brakes falls under construction and use offences. In doing so, you are using an unroadworthy vehicle on the public highway.

What would you do in the event that you were involved in an accident - due to said defect and the police were in attendance?

What if the Police were to pull you over to explain why you are driving so slowly?

Actually it's only accepted if you're on a motorway or unrestricted dual carrige way. (According to the highway code) to warn others of a possible hazard.

Breaks weren't faulty they still worked fine and remember its a motorcycle so ive got 2 independent breaking systems.
