ooo best not show Siren this thread as she cries at the drop of a hat. I'm not one for crying at all and don't understand those that do let their emotions run riot - which causes tension between Siren and I sometimes and now when she feels like a cry (what's all that about then, how can you feel like a cry for no apparent reason? Don't get that at all) - she buggers off to another room with a box of kleenex.

I guess that explains why we get through a lot of tissue in our house and here was me thinking she'd been having a sly fiddle all this time.

It's not about letting your emotions run riot when you cry (unless it's bloody PMT!!!).

Crying is natural and is a fantastic way of off-loading emotions when facing painful/difficult times.

Those that control crying but can't control their temper are the ones that are usually the ones that are often found running riot emotionally in my honest opinion.

In fact, three types of tears exist, all with different purposes. Basal tears are omnipresent in our eyes. These constant tears are what keep our eyes from drying out completely. The human body produces an average of 5 to 10 ounces of basal tears each day. They drain through the nasal cavity, which is the reason so many of us develop runny noses after a good sobfest.

The second type is reflex tears, which serve to protect the human eye from harsh irritants such as smoke, onions or even a very strong, dusty wind. To accomplish this feat, the sensory nerves in your cornea communicate this irritation to your brain stem, which in turn sends hormones to the glands in the eyelids. These hormones cause the eyes to produce tears, effectively ridding them of the irritating substance.

The third type of tears is emotional tears. It all starts in the cerebrum where sadness is registered. The endocrine system is then triggered to release hormones to the ocular area, which then causes tears to form. Emotional tears are common among people who see Bambi's mother die or who suffer personal losses.

The phrase "having a good cry" suggests that crying can actually make you feel physically and emotionally better, which many people believe. Some scientists agree with this theory, asserting that chemicals build up in the body during times of elevated stress. These researchers believe that emotional crying is the body's way of ridding itself of these toxins and waste products.

On Monday of this week, when I attended the funeral of a really close friend and ex colleague of mine, who died two weeks ago on my birthday.

Then again that evening as I heard one of her favourite songs on the radio, which had been played at the church on a CD to the waiting mourners before the service began.

that made me cry as I can relate to that. The horse accident did too. I never hack out on the road as too many idiots about. I'll take my chances on the farm bridle path with being startled by horse eating hares lol. Anything to do with animals turns me into a complete blubbering wreck.

It'll get easier.

I have a picture of my son on the wall at the bottom of my bed. It's the last thing I see at night and the first thing I see in the morning.

I used to cry just looking at it, as it's a picture with my eldest holding her brother and my middle daughter asleep in the background. The happiest period of my life...two days later he was dead.

You'll look at your wife's picture and smile without the tears one day. x

January 6th 2007 on hearing the news that our nephew, Robert had been killed in a car crash! Then on Friday 19th January 2007 at his funeral!

A year before we had to have our cat, Tinkerbell put to sleep! Broke my heart and I blubbed like a baby. Also June 2010 when I visited a different vet about a stray cat and they told me that Tinker could have had a good quality of life for years! First vet was wrong!!!

Last but not least, inside every day! I think of my parents and have realised that at 87 and 85 they will not be here much longer. Their passing will be sad, but more sad at the moment is they live 350 miles away and we just can't afford to visit them more than once a year!

yes, the parents thing is on of those i just have to put at the back of my mind.

mum had swine flu over new year which caused her transplanted kidney to fail.

that was a truly scary & upsetting time and i still think now that if i hadn't have flipped my biscuit with her GP she wouldn't have been with us now.

listening to my mum tell me that she didn't want to go on living because she felt so ill was the most heart wrenching thing i have dealt with to date.

then having been told she was 'simply depressed' by a locum doc during a night-time visit, i lost the plot with the GP the following morning, who ordered some blood tests and within 8 hours she was in intensive care

thankfully, 6 months later she is back on her feet again. not in perfect health but the best I have seen her since the transplant 18 months ago.

Result! Hope she continues to keep well for years to come. I do consider myself luck to have my parents at this point in my life, but not being able to see them is really upsetting! Still, off down there in a few weeks

hope you have a fab time with your 'olds' too

am sure it will be a massive treat for them.

if they're anything like mine it will be anyway.

they get excited seeing my ugly mush pressed up against the living room window and i only live 6 miles away lol
