Read this yesterday....

"The Fifa technical chief suggested eight changes on how to revolutionise football including limiting children’s matches to eight-a-side, allowing only captains to speak to the referee and stopping the clock when the ball goes out of play for the final 10 minutes of the game.

He also suggested orange cards to indicate 10-minute sin-bins, replace penalty shootouts with eight-second run-ups and, controversially, ditching offsides."

Thoughts or even suggestions?

I'd just ban the playing of football in general and go from there.

Good idea: Only captions talking to refs

Bad idea: Ditching offsides.

Ridiculous rules none would benefit football, some would actively slow the game down

What's an 8 second run up?

I'm not a fan of football so maybe not best placed to comment but I think sin bins are a brilliant idea. Yellow cards are pointless, 10 minutes with a player off the pitch is far more of a punishment as the impact is immediate

Will just cause more controversy, say for example if a yellow is wrongly given and the team concedes during the 10 minute sin bin. Reds get given wrongly often enough and there are not as many in a game as yellows

Do they get given unfairly? Or is that just the view of partisan supporters?

As someone who prefers Rugby League, I've no problem with a sin bin and stopping the clock

Gourcuffs response says it all!

The last and only major changes I think need to happen in football are , video referring and the return of standing terraces at affordable prices. Maybe a winter break like other leagues have

I like the idea of stopping the clock for all dead ball situations. The 4th official could do that job instead of acting like a fight referee, trying to keep opposing managers apart. It'd cut out silly time wasting tactics like 93rd minute substitutions, along with stop manager bitching that a goal was scored in 94th minute when Mr 4th official said 3 minutes of added time.

Not sure about the sin bin, unless you're gonna properly apply it. Be a laugh to see if the ref sin binned 2 or 3 players from the same side within minutes of each other and games were 11 v 9/8 for a short period.

The time wasting would still happen teams would repeatedly hoof the ball out of play further up pitch getting the ball closer/further from goal and stopping the clock.

Then I'm afraid there's no hope for football. May as well give them a deformed ball, allow the use of hands, make manhandling legal and we'd have a decent sp.........oh hang on, we've got that already

Dunbartonshire

They want to scrap bookings for players celebrating scoring a goal with the fans.

Players that dive and roll about like fuds should see a straight red card. My pet hate hardly touched and roll about on the deck , not to mention they are on £100,000 a week while doing it.

Take that a step forward..

There's the ball lads, there are the nets. No rules, just kick the shit out of each other, gouge, maim (but don't kill!), last man standing wins the match for his side!

Games could be over in 10 minutes. Hooray

Some of the ideas are good but limiting players on a kid's team means 3 of them wouldn't get to play. And getting rid of the offside rule is just plain silly; you'd end up with goal hanging and people just punting the ball up the pitch in hope.

maybe only eight players on the field but have rolling substitutes players able to enter the and leave the game at any point upto five mins before end of each half squads of sixteen to twenty . played in a league that used this and it worked very well .would make officials into teams of four who work together every week rotating round duties ref lino fourth lino etc they would all know each others wants and styles etc

Sin bins seem a good idea, but don't like it, this ain't rugby!!

ice hockey style shoot outs, don't like it!!

90 mins split into 4 periods, stupid idea.

Captains only, already suggested and think it's in play but no one seems to listen anyway.

Stop clock for last 10mins, rubbish idea.

Offsides are a part of the game, its what makes it interesting, getting rid is pointless.
