I'd go for the Forrester if it was petrol. (Great engine) but you are better of with a VW diesel.
If it was my money I'd got for a petrol Forrester and drive economically. |

Both diesel... found the tig a bit...well, boring tbh- just didnt exite me
Forester is different, better drive system (arguably, but not much in it)
Both have shown to have common faults
........driving me nuts trying to decide may get down to flipping a coin soon |

Forester all the way. The boxer diesel is one of the best engines ever made - but bollocks to that get a Forrester STI, a remap to 300+ bhp and go hunting Porsches. |

"The Tig. VW support, and VW reliability and class."
My sister has one and it's been nothing but trouble. I've had 3 Subarus (all Imprezas) all three were turbocharged nutcases and covered over half a million trouble free miles in them. Counting down the days until I buy my next one.
Of course no doubt other people may have different experiences, I can only say what mine has been of both marques. |

Tiguans are great cars idea alround fun and family car, yes they do have a couple of faults but what car hasn't these days. VW quality and VW will help with any problems you have but make sure it has a good history. R-line the one to go for but not cheap even second hand. |

I'd go for a Tiguan. They're proving to be very reliable cars and plus they look quite good too.
Not a fan of the Subaru to be honest. You don't see many of those about nowadays as well.

Subaru may not be around much longer so spares might be a problem but certainly some if their other cars only need one wheel getting traction to stay on course- unbeaten in slippy situations. Subaru repairs can be tricky- both expensive but more problematic, special used, even for discs and air filters but hell of a car. A Legacy would give you 50mpg. Tig is cool but a bit boring as a car. |

Friends of mine in Vermont in the USA, run a B%B business in a hilly Ski Resort area, where 4x4's are almost mandatory purchases there.
Evaluating a 4x4 range last year, they chose the Tiguan and have raved about it since and can't praise it highly enough!

Cant have a disco...too high. (Already had one and would love another but not an option at the present time) mrs has a disability so too high or too low ( 'normal car') is out of the picture- forester or tiguan are just about right
So far looking like tiguan and plain sensibility over something different is winning |

Was going to say skip both and go Mitsubishi Outlander but now you have put entrance height as a consideration and despite really liking the forester more it's the ever popular VW that's the obvious choice ...
xx
p.s don't open just the boot and leave keys inside then shut tailgate when unloading etc, it's got a shoppers lock and will lock the keys inside the car ... |
