Quitting smoking

Well this will be my 3rd attempt at giving up, with the air of Champix this time... give up date 23rd Jan!

That means only one more week allowed to smoke... at least I have 2 weekends to full my lungs.

Who else has given up or trying at the moment?

VB and I both gave up at the same time about 8 years ago. Did the cold turkey thing and never looked back.

Good luck!

I've given up for about 20 years now. It took about ten years to really kick the habit and I haven't had a craving in about 5 years.

Stopped smoking cold turkey 8.5 years ago after a health scare. Never missed it. It was like flipping a switch in my head.

DirtyGirl has just stopped if you check out her thread.

gave uo 8 years ago.. set a date 3 months in the future, me and mrs both stopped that day.

you can do it!!!!. not just the money you wont believe how your sense of smell and taste come back among all the other health benfits.

and you wont believe how bad smokers smell after they've just had a fag and how much it puts you off!.

couple of years time youll smell someone who'd just had a fag and think you used to smell like that !

its mind over matter honestly.. i smoked since i was a teen and really wanted to stop and i did.

good luck .

I'm 10 days in but using a vape, it takes the edge off and somehow I'm in that place in my head where I feel like I don't need to smoke.

There and to the left a bit

Will be 8 months off them tomorrow although do vape and to be honest I think it's the vaping that has got me through it. Can honestly say have only ever had the odd craving for the real thing.

Good luck OP keep posting your progress you'll find that helps with keeping it at bay

Yes I've saved money and my health deteriorated when I quit smoking.

Wish I never bothered

19 days. Cold turkey. I can't say I've even had cravings... I think the time was just right for me. I've not felt the need and whilst sure that'll happen, I had the worst cough and almost overnight it stopped. I just don't want to feel that bad again. It's not a difficult choice.

Apart from the health issues, the cost is ridiculous. Tomorrow I'm going to buy myself a pair of shoes.

I found it very difficult to quit smoking but like you went cold Turkey and I did it but my health is more rubbish now than when I smoked.

..but won't go back to smoking again

If you feel like smoking becomes too much of a chore on Champix. Just stop. Don't light up again. I don't know anyone who smoked up until their quit date. Champix makes it almost impossible.

Good luck.

Gave up on the 1st of July 2016. I slid a few times but only after a few drinks but got no desire of going back and smoke daily. It is hard only because I really like smoking and I didn't wanna stop. I'm doing it for my son and my wealth and the fact that it is a pointless habit with no good outcome.

Quitting is easy, I've done it loads of times.

And there's the rub, starting again is easy too...

Cold turkey is the *only* way to quit, everything else is like only turturing 1 or two people a week instead of murdering 3 a day, and claiming you are a reformed person who has given up on violence.

If people said to you "Yeah I have given up mainlining heroin, I only take methadone medicinally 3 times a day now" you'd still treat them as a junkie, same rules apply to smoking, patches / vaping / tabs it's all nicotine addiction.

If you think you rule your own head and personality, give up smoking, and look at all the creative thoughts your head will come up with why just one quick puff now is better for the long term quitting goal than cold turkey.

Not if there's no nicotine in the liquids I don't think the nicotine is the issue it's more the habit that's harder to break.

I gave up using the patches , then blips of smoking, then patches on and off for 18 months. Then 2 years ago went cold turkey with the vain attempts prior kept failing. Was hard but 2 years in I'm still not gone near one and never will again. Good luck Hun.

I gave up last year using a vapey thing for a month or so ( rubbish! )

And then just sheer pig headed will power.

It was bloody hard!

But I feel grateful daily that I don't smoke anymore!

Do it - it's the best thing you can do for your health and your wallet!

10 years clean.

Found it best to cut down over a month untill zero day

Try to find that weaning off route that works for you, think smoke and bite a chlli lol, retain the brain.

When i look a the price of them now eeeeekkk

Also the hidden impact of fake fags and tabbaco flooding the UK, should be a concern for smokers.

Allen Carr method

Don't use vaping/substitutes that just delay the addiction. Good luck.
