Has anyone experience this?
Over the last 3 days and most of the time my heart has almost felt like its jumping out of my body, beating very hard but not fast. I looked up online and it says this can be as a result of increased alcohol/coffee intake, stress and medication. I have ruled out the above but its a bit worrying. |

I'm not actually a doctor (even though my name says so) but I would strongly advise a trip to your gp or doctor! Probably nothing but if your not feeling right it's best to get checked out. |

"If you have palpitations lasting 15 mins you need to go straight to the a and e department"
I wouldnt dare bother them with just a heart palpatation.. its not bothering me at all. Its not causing giddyness or shortness of breath. Just a real pulsating beat. Its been a tiring/stressful week so that could be it.

Yes I agree. I can actually see the movement of my heart beating on my chest. I will check out with the doctor next week if it continues. |

that's more than likely what's causing them..the daft thing is that worrying about them will probably make them happen more... |

If not, why not?
Seriously. Get it checked out."
Not its not happening every min of the day .. but most of the time i notice it when im not busy.
I cant justify going to A & E when im fine. Like others say , it happens when you are stressed and tired and if i get shortness of breath or dizziness, i will get it checked out. Thanks |

I had a test about 6 years ago and it was really low something like 3.5 and the average or norm is 5. But havent had it tested lately. Have had blood pressure tested about 4 months ago and that was all ok. |

I would suggest you check asap. My mum was experiencing this, we called ambulance and she was having a mild heart attack. Unbeknowns to us, she had had several episodes and the consultant said that it was likely each episode was a mild heart attack. She died in April from heart failure Please get this checked! |

"she was a lovely woman"
"told her to get, it checked out"
"why didn't she go the doctors"
Harsh to hear but quotes like that are what people up and down the country say after loved ones have a heart attack. I know it's a bit in your face, but for God's sake get it checked! If it's nothing it's only a few wasted hours of your time. If it's something and you don't get it checked the consequences are not worth thinking about. |

If were just stressed I would suggest taking some valerian, but if not I would definitely get checked over at A&E!
Palpitations can also be associated with insulin resistance and hyperthyroidism, not sure but I think maybe menopause can too??
But I for one would want to get my heart checked after 3 days, hell, after 24 hours I would - whatever the reason it is not normal! |

"Oh god don't bother A&E with this. See your GP. It's most likely something really simple like low thyroid levels. Your GP will be able to address this with simple tests in a few days."
Lol, no, hypothyroidism would have the opposite effect and any thyroid dysfunction can take months to sort out.

Same here. My mum was seen straight away and anyway I'd rather be sitting in A&E, than worrying at home. |

They could just be ectopic beats. Where the heart throws in an extra beat.
Lots of people get these. If you are at all concerned have a word with your GP. They can also be related to your menstrual cycle and hormones xxxxx Suzi |

If they continue or your feel short of breath or have any chest pain associated with them, then seriously get to your GP or A&E. You might need an echo or some blood tests to see if it's anything serious. I hope you are okay.x |

High potassium intake can change electrical rhythm of the heart. Look at hyperkalemia. Commonly associated with people with liver problems, but can happen to healthy people. No one has mentioned it, thought I'd add this possibly.
Best to get a blood test to rule out any clinical stuff, then maybe the need for beta blockers short term if still persists. |

This is what it was. I had an ECG which showed this extra beat. Doc said usually caused by alochol or caffeine but other than that im fit and healthy. So because I dont drink excessively or have lots of caffeine, the doctor suggested blood test to rule out over active thyroid and other things.
Thanks everyone for pushing me to see the doctors. |

I've had these for over 20 years. They get worse when I'm unfit (one of the main reasons why I keep fit).
Also affected by too much caffeine and carbs late at night. |

That sounds quite like insulin resistance (or the adrenal response to prevent a rebound hypo after hyperinsulinemia)? |

I dont drink coffee late at night. But did have a busy tiring day Tuesday /Wednesday and drank about 4 strong cups so think this may have started it. But I've had more than 4 cups before and more regularly. Im taking up cycling to work and will get back to jogging when it's warmer |

"call 111, they will be more reliable source of information than a swingers website."
I did consult the nhs website and other sites before coming on here to ask opinions. Its not strong palpatations.. more a heavy pumping heart and there were no dizzyness, shortness of breath and im fit and healthy otherwise so I didnt think I needed to ring 111 or go to A & E .. it was more to see if anyone else had similar symptoms and lo and behold.. several who have had similar symptons. But on their advice I went to see the doctor, nothing to worry about and blood tests monday.
I might not have done that if it wasnt for the superb guys on this forum. |

I suffer from irregular heart beat, every now and then it skips a beat and you become much more aware of your heart beat, lasts for about 5 minutes and I find if I busy myself doing something it goes even faster..... Unfortunately I just did that looking at your pictures and viola I'm back to skipping |

I wouldnt dare bother them with just a heart palpatation.. its not bothering me at all. Its not causing giddyness or shortness of breath. Just a real pulsating beat. Its been a tiring/stressful week so that could be it.
"
I would see a doctor, but unless you have other symptoms I would just book a regular appointment.
If you have pain, blurred vision, giddiness, etc then A&E.
You could ring 111 for advice.
