A Full Stop?

A Period?

Or is it a Sentence Terminator?

Or is is something entirely different?

I just can't seem to make up my mind?

Help. Worried of Stoke.

Period is such a silly name for it, it's the end of a period, so call it by its proper name, Dotty McDotface.

Period derives from the Latin " periodus " which means a complete sentence.

So the term period implies " the sentence is completed "

"Period derives from the Latin " periodus " which means a complete sentence.

So the term period implies " the sentence is completed ""

But the term was first used by typesetters to describe a dot signifying the end of a section of text. The sentence ending dot was known as a full stop.

It is recently the case (c.1600) that we have used the two interchangeably.
