Depends on when you ask for them, I'd say.
I get loads of initial messages asking for/demanding pics. My profile does say I don't send them; I am not looking to meet right now or for someone to chat with me or not based on my looks.
I don't mind sending them once we've established a bit of contact but do despise the assumption that I should send them immediately just because it's demanded.
