If FAB introduced a membership fee of say...£30-£40 per month like other similar sites and dating sites etc. Do you think member numbers would vastly reduce ?
Do you think it would show the true scale of who the genuine "swingers" are?
And who are only here to use it as another free social media site to chat/flirt/tease etc?

The people who aren't that serious tend to join places like POF/Tinder etc as they are free and its another extension to their social media sites/apps.

i got recommended to join fab by someone off another site that you had to pay for, something like £30 a month, because he didn't want to pay but still wanted to chat to me. |

Paying to find "the one" is a completely different thing to this site. You pay on the assumption you'll meet someone then leave and live happily over after. Somewhere like this is a totally different proposition.
I've used a site where men had to pay to message women and it was horrible, the dynamic was absolutely awful. If I wanted to feel like a prostitute, I want to be the one earning the money from it, not a business. |

I wouldn't mind paying a little something but absolutely no way £30-40. That's a ludicrous amount.
Something like £5-£7 a month should hopefully remove the time wasters who sign up for a few days, lead you up the garden path and dissapere.
Hopefully it will also discourage the neanderthals who spoil it for the genuine guys.

I think it would just become elitist, there'd be lots of 'genuine' swingers who quite simply couldn't justify £30-40 per month, money is right for a lot of people but that doesn't mean they're time wasters or a rubbish meet.
We paid for another site when we first considered swinging, we have no proof but we're pretty confident the influx of messages were from paid employees of the site. once you pay your money and get full access to the site you realise they have a very limited number of legitimate members. You live and learn!
So yes, I think the membership numbers would decrease massively.

I remember when SH started charging
It was a great site once, members who had joined before a certain date were are still allowed to use the site to this day but what it meant was less and less people joined the site as i think it is around £18 a month these days
If you go on there now there are probably less than a couple of hundred on it st this time
Probably ruined a good site by charging as much as they do

I think that OP has a point but £30-40 is too much...maybe a system that made it difficult or expensive for men ( the ones who leave and change profiles for indiscrepancies etc!)...a similar system to the way clubs work...
We are also not getting a true consensus on this thread...the majority of comments seem to come from regular contributors to threads, getting their moments of fame for free or a small charge for membership...

we have been on paid site where you have to pay similar to what you are suggesting, they were shit, full of entitled assholes who figured because they were paying everyone was theirs for the taking regardless of attraction/desire. there were still timewasters and there were still somehow fake profiles and now, the site is basically empty 5 years later (we joined up again on a free month trial toward the end of last year)
Fab, for all it's foibles, works, we pay our supporter subs and get the extra features and we enjoy it, but I wouldn't pay that much for a site again, rather just pay to go to a club instead, actually meet real people! |

I would pay slightly more than I am at the moment to be a site supporter but not the amount being suggested.
I too have been on a site where the men have to pay a shitload of money to message & the women go free. No one is more or less genuine because they pay there's just much more entitlement from the ones that part with their cash.
If you charge a high fee people would expect (even more than some do now) a return, to get sex on demand.
I wouldn't feel comfortable on a sex site like that. |

That's interesting! and poignant....I agree Fab is the best site I have been on...if there is a draw back, I rarely message people esp if they are fairly new to site, imagining how much mail they have to go through |

I've been a member of many sex/swinging sites since 1997, a large proportion of which charged a fee, at least for the men. It didn't stop idiots or timewasters. It even made me more uncomfortable as the men expected shags for their money and got quite aggressive.
If Fab ever introduces a fee over the reasonable supporters fee, I'd be off. |

The site has VERY easy features that will prevent anyone contacting you that you may not think genuine/decent etc..

Fab is the only site I've ever subscribed to because I think it's good value for money, I've met some lovely people from all walks of life and hopefully will carry on doing so but I think such a price increase would kill any business, no matter what it is.
Agreed, there are a lot of dreamers with too much time on their hand's but it's up to you (the subscriber) to them out... when you do they create another account or change their username! 
That's the purpose of the block button, if you know you won't or wouldn't meet them, Block! It's nothing personal, just away of saying 'No Thanks' but saving each other a lot of time.

My immediate thoughts would be, how are you going to justify that?
What improvements or benefits will there be for me? The UI is very dated and is short of some of the newer tools other sites have. Could I expect the fee to be pumped back into development?
If not, then where is the money going? I am not aware of this sites ownership or business model. I think that would have to be made very clear also.
But bottom line, probably not. |

And the clubs are the same against single men we get charged way more than couples and single females to join or go in surely it should be the same price for everyone.
Its just an easy way to make money off single guys. |

Numbers would plummet and the site would be much worse, dur to less choice. I would not dream of paying such a fee and I'm in the swinging world and genuine.
Personal responsibility for choosing who you interact with, more choice and a willingness to have some issues but learn from them is important. As much as we all hate some hassle and disappointment. |

I would pay, based on experience of a site I was on years ago where men had to pay a membership fee but ladies membership was free and that worked great.
There were still more men than women on there varying from about a 60/40 to 70/30 split, the pricing was set to make the ratio's sensible.
The positives were that the women knew the men on there were serious as you don't pay that much for something just to dick about. I never heard complaints of no shows or abusive messaging. As a guy almost every single message you sent would get read as ladies weren't getting flooded with so many and you stood a far better chance of being noticed.
I think it's only natural to not want to pay for something you currently don't have to but if it was brought in to make the site work better for people and to change the balance of the membership on here then I would be all for it. |

I couldnt afford to pay for membership. Fullstop really, I work full time and barely cover my bills so couldnt justify it. Think theres a big risk that you would lose very genuine, active members if this happened |

Im genuine, ive met and will meet again. I dont waste anyones time, but do take my time to find a quality meet not just anyone for sake of getting my cock in.
Id definitely not pay that much. Wouldn't be worth it. Some months im not even looking so i know it would be a waste when im not here.
Current Site supporter fees are reasonable enough. |

My experience of a site with that payment structure was that it was absolutely horrible - the attitude of the men was that they were paying for the women. I'm not a commodity. There were also enormous numbers of scammer profiles designed to extract more money from men who had already shown they were desperate enough to pay that much for sex. |

I wonder if it was the same one I was on. There were also scammer profiles aimed at keeping the women there.
A friend said generally a week before his membership expired women who matched his criteria would miraculously appear, strike up a conversation & then disappear when he resubscribed.. |

there was a site before fabswingers camee along that was as big as this one that was free for people to use and had a brilliant vibrant scene...
then a group of business's bought it from the then owners (who were swingers just like out current owners were) and then they brought in pricing....... not as expensive as you are suggesting, but 15 quid for a month....
it killed the site..... they killed the golden goose and the potential it had....and it is now a shell of what it was.... |

I wouldn't pay that much simply because i don't meet often enough to warrant paying that, i have a very busy life, im a single mum working two jobs so my spare time is limited, i meet once every two to three month, maybe squeeze another meet in if i have holiday booked so paying £30 to £40 a month just wouldn't be cost affective for me, id be better off just going to a club on my free night
Does that make me less genuine than those who would pay because they meet on a weekly basis? |

This isn't a dating site. Paying £30 or more a month is not going to improve the quality of this site's members. It will only put it out of reach of most people and will indubitably become populated only by those with more money than sense. There is enough elitism in society without introducing it here. |

Remember that when they started charging , and yes it died , but those days there wasnt that many good sites, best thing about S.H was they had a good chatroom, you could create your own room...have still got membership as free , but dont use it, same as SDC thats another site that use to charge but we got life time membership for a 1 off fee, But no wouldnt pay now for a swinging site... |

I wouldn't mind paying a little something but absolutely no way £30-40. That's a ludicrous amount.
Something like £5-£7 a month should hopefully remove the time wasters who sign up for a few days, lead you up the garden path and dissapere.
Hopefully it will also discourage the neanderthals who spoil it for the genuine guys.

I agree. I've been on pay sites for dating when I was single and I was amazed at how many fakes and time wasters were still on it. Needless to say I didn't renew my membership.
If I had to pay 30-40quid a month for FAB then we'd leave. There are other means to an end.
Would I pay a small fee? Possibly as fab is tried and tested for us but how long that would last would depend on how many others left. |

Its all about economics. Would it be fair to say that "single" males make up 90% of the total membership of FAB which boasts (in its own advert) 250,000 members? If you disagree with those assumptions then please correct me.
So in round figures lets say "single" men number 200,000? If they pay a one off membership fee of £40 that is a total income of £8m. The freedom of entry to a economic grouping is important as if there are no barriers the entry will be watered down with those who really don't want to participate and are just bystanders. So with 90% of the entrants male the majority of idiots and time wasters will come from that majority. Are you with me?
So those running this gig would profit with the imposition of a Community Urbane Non-refundable Tax on the majority of entrants.
Additionally I have yet to receive a "wanna fuck" "hows you" or "can I make you pregnant message from a female or couple. Funny that? |

I would reverse the question to, if they separated this platform so that Fabswingers remained as it is, and created a genuine swingers arm like RealFabswingers to this site that would incur a £30-£40 monthly fee, would the genuine swingers move over and pay, or would they stay right where they are?
The non genuine swingers would not go over and pay, and the genuine ones wont exactly go over in droves either, which will make it unsustainable in my opinion.
If they did start charging in the way you have suggested, I think it would dilute their brand. |

You can set message filters to verified only or no newbies, so there is quite good protection in place.
I think the most likely to suffer even more is the forums. It is a mass of random aggressive posts. I would suggest more focus on sorting that out. |
