Anyone heading along to Hafan Y Mor this year?

If I can get my costumes sorted I'll be Han Solo and Holtzmann from Ghostbusters

I've been going since the beginning 8 yrs ago, my costumes have grown since then lol!

Moved house recently so not had time to do something in depth so a couple of easy costumes this time, plus I'll reuse one I already have

Sadly Paul McCann and James Marsters have had to cancel. Nick Brendon is coming, alongside Gareth David-Lloyd, Chris Barrie, some guys from Outlander and a couple of Old Who Companions Frazer Hines and Daphne Ashbrook

I did lfcc once because Stan Lee was there, but it's really for pic and autograph hunters and can cost a fortune. Plus Showmasters are the worst company I've ever seen and the way they treat their customers is appalling. They'll never get my money again

That's what I'd heard from friends of mine that went last year, organisation was poor, very expensive and lots of moving around of meet and greet times. All Showmasters seem to be interested in is taking the cash instead of providing a decent Con that people want to go to

Yep. When people complained of overcrowding and overheating a few years ago Jason the organiser called us all fantasists and liars. And they remove any negative comments from their forum

MCM is alright, but much like Showmasters format. One I really enjoy is Nine Worlds although that's more of a geek conference rather than a convention, no famous people lol

Never heard of Nine worlds, but looking and it seems right up my street, metaphorically speaking of course.

In an ideal world there'd be a con for us kinky swinging geeks!

Hooking up at cons is probably understandable, especially with lots of cosplay going on added to the fact that lots of geeks seem to be secretly (and sometimes not so secretly) filthy!

I'd guess it happens a lot

I've a friend who works for one of showmasters sub companies specifically for their Europe Star Trek shows. From what I've spoken to him about their shows there are a good number of people advising changes that will make the shows better including things and could easily be managed but it seems if they themselves haven't thought about the suggested changes they pretty much find suggestions a waist of time cos it's never been done before therefore probably will not work, ignoring many things are not working now

I think they're ignoring suggestions because there isn't enough competition for them, they have the market cornered for big cons that attract the bigger names to attend.

Unfortunately the only way this will change is if people stop going, but I think we're too polite over here. If fans were treated the same at a US con it would be out of business next time around

Nine World's has been on my go too list for a while along with Easter Con and Fantasy con (more for booky people). Last con I went to was a Starfleet Ball in Bournemouth and had a fun hour with a guy in a Klingon costume.

With the destination Star Treks (not been to others of theirs) I think it's unfair to say they're solely in it for the money, but the issues def come from their inability to plan shows flexibly. The volunteers can be great (a few can be odd in my experiences) but they are juggling the schedules that are too tight. trying to be kept updated on changes to the day, whilst informing correctly customers and keeping the guests happy. If they spaced things out a bit more and found a way to update the staff when changes happened it would make such a difference.

My overriding concern is the complete lack of health and safety there is. Packing people in like sardines is never a good idea.

As I've booked for next year's SFW I'll get free tickets for SFW in the City in Sheffield this October, hoping that will be good
