This might sound like Nanny McPhee I know, but.
Are you content when you have what you need or
When you have what you want?
I don't know which sounds more materialistic and which is more sought after.
I have what I need as I have a job, but it's not what I want.
I want to pay the bills and I can as I work, but is it what I need to be happy in life?

We have more money than we've ever had, but I'm not materialistic, neither is Dave so it matters not...For me, I'm happy as I don't have to worry about running out of gas, electric and food... If my kids need something, they get it....I'm lucky that I can be at home with the kids...I can sleep at night, not worrying about being evicted from my home... These things are worth more than any amount of disposable income to me. |

I think people are happiest when content.....
But unfortunately very few people achieve that state of contentment because greed is an infectious stimulus that rots the minds of the weak,,,,, |

Please indulge me. What do you imagine as greed? |

I'm perhaps the wrong person to answer that as my perception of individual greed is tainted by the nature of certain overseas activities I'm periodically involved in ...

Money is only extrinsically valuable in the it helps us to do other things. Those things that are intrinsically valuable are what brings happiness - Love, truth and beauty. So good friends, good questions and good work, art, music and health contribute much more to happiness |

This I like.
Immediately wanting things doesn't interest me. Although when I do purchase an 'item' I normally Look at what I imagine to be the best. An iPhone for example. I need a phone to call somebody. I want an iPhone. I have an iPhone and doesn't make me any happier.
Life experiences make me happiest. But are we greedy for those? Does that make is bad people if we want more and more of what we like?
I can't live without music, my life would miss something.
Friends again make me content. I don't think I 'need' more though. Mmm.
There's a striking difference between wanting and needing something.

Stuff only brings temporary happiness.
It's like a drug - you need more and more of it but there is always a comedown.
Repeat .... buy more stuff ...
So many things give us temporary happiness including people - but I guess Buddha and Yoda were right - Things and people can't make you happy- lasting happiness comes from you.

Most days most people unless they are very rich have to go to work and do boring chores, same things day after day especialy if you have kids or have a boring, or stressful job or spend time with boring people. Even if youre lucky enough to have a job and enough money.
You need to be very wealthy to have a really good life. |

"You need to be very wealthy to have a really good life."
No not really, you need to know how you will achieve the next task, be that obtaining the cash for tonight's dinner and shelter. or throwing the perfect party on your country estate.
No needs is almost as bad for you as unachievable needs. |
