night clubs are dying!!!

Just read that half of night clubs have shut down since 2005.
Local authorities silly licensing rules, rising house prices, rising alcohol prices and the booming culture of social media/ dating apps are said to be the cause of this!!!
Could the popularity of swinger clubs also be a factor?? Aren't they on the increase??
Also do swinging club owners have to go through same shit as commercial night clubs?? Example when someone died at Radlett the police never shut it down n blamed it on their policy of searching drugs!!!!This how ether happens to night clubs!! Swinger clubs don't put us through passport security either!!
Does anyone think this is a sad predicament for British night culture
Interested for people's opinions, especially young people as their missing out on a once golden era |

 It's obvious that it's this! Before the changes to licensing laws in (you guessed it) 2005, if you wanted to stay out past 11 you had to go to a club. Now you don't. A 50% reduction sounds about right tbh.
I wouldn't have thought swingers clubs have anything to do with it whatsoever...this is still quite a niche pastime. |

spot on because pubs are closing people not meeting in them before moving on to a club lot more choice for late bar drinkers .and years ago you had to go out and mingle to get a partener .now we plan our meets round fab type sites . |

They're shit anyway. Years ago you had to go to a club if you wanted to stay out, they'd charge you a door fee and extra for drinks and you went hoping to kop off.
Times have changed, I'm older now but I sure wouldn't miss clubs. |

Spot on
Bars have dance areas too so unless you're going to a club for a specific night / DJ / band, they're simply not the late night venue they once were. |

I wouldnt go to clubs as i dont like the music they play...not everyone is young,id only go if it was a specific music genre night as this dancey crap gives me a headache.x  |

Was a sad day when my favourite nightclub, escape in Swansea closed it's doors for the last time 2 years ago. I met the father of my child there in 2000!

Clubs aren't what they used to be. Ee by eck.
The club scene in Blackpool will always be busy. We have had a new club open and it's always busy. We're lucky to have a high turnover of visitors and healthy stag and hen numbers to sustain the scene. Elsewhere though the decline has been sad and rapid. I cut my clubbing teeth in Blackburn. The last time I went we couldn't find a club. At all. They'd all disappeared. |

Exactly this! I miss these places more than night clubs! Other posters are spot on in respect of it being largely down to extended licensing hours for pubs. Seen it decline over the last 12 - 15 years |

Couldn't give a shit if the club scene is dying out, it's had it's days when I was younger  swinger clubs are more suited.At least there is no hassle of queuing up outside in the cold for an hour just to be told by a low IQ bouncer that you can't come in, and fighting d*unks everywhere. |

They are closing because they don't provide what customers want. As mentioned late night bars are often full, So customers are out there, we constantly get told of the problem d*unks, so they are buying booze. If they are not choosing to go to the club's then the club's are not selling what they want. |

There's still a couple of pubs in Derby that regularly have live bands on. I sometimes attend, and would sooner go there these days than some massive arena or festival that costs a fortune for entry and you need a pair of binoculars to see the stage |

Thanks for your responses. I don't drink but have always enjoyed clubs and pulling girls at them. It's a shame they have gone downhill and external factors have halted people from going..

i think the music is a big factor ..when i used to go clubing the music played was an important facttor in where to go .
nowadays the music is mostly shit and all u get is the same tedious beat all nite . ..also nites that just play one type of music get very boring quite quickly . fragmenting dance music into so many different pigeonholes hasnt helped the dance music/club scene thrive .. nor has the influx of and ketamine
the people i meet at swinging clubs are not the same the people i meet at night clubs ..tho i dont go to them often nowadays as im too old |

Also clubs are closing down due to rising property/land prices, gentrification and development.
Places like The Cross, The Key and Canvas went due to the redevelopment of Kings Cross and Ministry of Sound was threatened by a proposed apartment block being built opposite it. |

Are you kidding? Where on earth do you live? I can think of 20 bars open till 3 in Newcastle. I'd imagine the same is true of most cities. |

bournemouth's full of them them to.tho the line between nightclub and bar isnt clear..u used to have to get signed in to a club ..thats no longer the case |

You can come out of bars in Leeds about 5am so no need to go into a night club and pay stupid money and it be full of 17 - 21yr olds who can't hold their drink and just wanna cause hassle.

Well my clubbing days were cut in Wolverhampton at uni....
There was enough bars and clubs for a different place each night
Nowadays I hate to say I am not sure if that I style case. I suppose now I am older, I want to go out enjoy the music (I love dance music). But no 18/20 year old is going to like a 35 year old dancing like I am 18 again.
When I was younger I loved glow sticks, coloured hair and was a right raver...settled down now |

I've been to Bournemouth, Kingston, Windsor, Watford n London. None are as busy as they use to be. I'm comparing to 10 years ago.
Went to Clapham last Friday n was turned away by 2 clubs coz I was on my own.. stupid regulations have put me off going again, think I'll just stick to Eureka n Abfabs even if the clientelle is old for my liking |
