I tried but I just don't get it. I wanted to find it funny as a lot of my friends do but I just can't.

I like the Alan Partridge character, it seems to have stood the test of time much better than the very dated David Brent character played by Ricky Gervais

Yes, completely.

Maybe it's because Partridge does it to himself (mostly), whereas Brent does it to other people.

Yeah that could be it.... I find it much easier to feel pathos towards Partridge
