Filters and angles

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

A gorgeous forumite tried to tell me last night that she was the result of filters and flattering angles. While I believe these play a part in making photos appealing, I refuse to believe that everyone here with good pics looks vastly different in the cold light of day!

What do you think? Are your filters and and angles holding an unflattering secret or are you every bit as hot in the flesh?

Personally I'm just as sweet, just a tad more clothed in real life...

A world of my own

I can look like my pictures because they are me. If you met me in a bar etc you'd think yup same person. However if you were to take away the pretty lingerie or dress and stand me naked. You'd see I've a horrific mummy tummy. I have far too many wobbly bits and my right boob is bigger than my left.

I don't like being naked. My confidence vanishes. And the girl in the pictures or from the bar changes.

Am I deceiving people with my photos by not showing that?

Maybe.

However why would I want to flaunt the bits of me I hate?

I think it's pretty obvious I'm me but I also happen to be photogenic so have a tendency to make sure people are aware of that before they meet me. I'll point out I have a horribly flabby tummy, wobbly thighs and that since I am so pale my skin looks great in pics but is far from it in real life. Conversely when there is movement involved I have an animated face, a ready laugh and expressive eyes. Those don't come across in photos either.

Iceland, but Aldi is closer..

She may want to think that it's filters (never seen a beauty filter before, will look out for one.. Damn, I know I need it!!) and angles to a degree.. .

What really makes a stunning picture of a person is 1% photographer, 4% scenery or pose and 95% confidence.

I alway take my pictures at flattering angles and make them look "warmer" as I'm quite pale.

Other than that, they are just me. I try to sell my good points. However, my face and my personality are my best features but I can't portray that in a picture.

I don't think it's deceptive at all, no one has to expose every inch of themselves on here if they don't want to! You are doing what most people here do (I know I do): focussing on your strengths. As long as people use their own pics I'm happy, and the ones who make an extra effort to take appealing pics get extra brownie points in my book

Unless you photoshop parts of your body out or use it to enhance features I can't see that anyone would look vastly difference just using filters & angles.

I'm not particularly photogenic, usually takes me a while to take a photo I'm happy with, it's hard to capture the real me without my head

Oh, I look way better in my pics, mainly because the lingerie I have, covers a multitude of sins. However, I have some friends only pictures that were the hardest I've ever had to put on because they show parts I'd otherwise cover up. Quite liberating to show them, actually!

Fortunately, I got my Dad's eyes and my Mum's facial features so, like Ruby, use that to my advantage.

I look a bit crap here, a bit crap in real life. I can't be bothered with filters and faffing apart from the occasional b+wing and cropping. In real life I don't wear makeup, my hair is too big and I look like a posh hobo. You can tell it's me quite easily.

People say they are pleasantly surprised which is good I think. I'm slimmer and bustier than my photos suggest.

there's some right weird looking people on here. they seem to have filtered their skin so that it is completely flat.

i get that wrinkles aren't flattering but to make your skin look 'flawless' like that is weird.

my pics are shit and getting shittier, not sure if it's coz i've dropped my phone a lot or just i'm getting complacent.

Mr here,

Love your photos, the best I've seen on this site

Yes we make full use of filters and angles, partly to accentuate the best bits and hide the worst bits but also because we simply enjoy taking the photos. Playing around with lighting, angles and filters is part of the fun for us and some of the profiles we're most most attracted to are the ones that show a similar aesthetic and effort in presentation, we are realistic about what people may look like in real life as we know what such effects have had on our photos. Also face and personality are more important to us.

Our boat races aren't too shabby though so that hopefully would counteract any bodily flaws that people see irl.

I filter the fuck out of mine.

I don't have a photogenic face. I look better in real life because I'm quite animated and those expressions don't come out properly in a static photo. Instead, in face photoa I usually look like a gurning idiot or someone scowling

"Apparently I look better in the flesh than I do in my pics. I'll take that!"

I've been told the same a fair few times, but it doesn't come as a huge shock to me because I don't think I photograph well at all. I'm rubbish at taking photos too, i'm not one for selfies either.

The only part of my body I really dislike is my tummy (thanks to two kids and multiple surgeries), so i never show it in photos. And during meets i'll wear lingerie to disguise it.

The boyfriend definitely looks better in the flesh than he does in photos... he's got a naughty glint in his eye that doesn't come across in pics.

If ever we get a "no" because of our photos i always have to stop myself saying "but we're actually a lot more attractive in real life!!"

Beauty being in the eye of the beholder an app that, ultimately it doesn't matter what's edited and what isn't, if someone's attracted to you, (providing full facial reconstruction hasn't been performed with Photoshop) then they'll be attracted irrespective of lights and filters? Obviously the same stands when someone finds you unattractive xx

You've got a couple of features that don't look easy to hide

my blue eyes can be hidden if i close my eyelids

That was exactly what I was referring to! "

i know.. i read your mind

"I'm happy with the angle and filtering on this pic "

I can't get the right angle right yet for a pic. my Pythagoras from school isn't working. I look the size of a hobbit in my pics so far when I was trying for a wood elf.

"I can look like my pictures because they are me.

Maybe.

However why would I want to flaunt the bits of me I hate?"

this is exactly it for me too. I don't see it as deception , I just don't want to publish pics of me that don't flatter me

I find the colour is different depending on which phone I'm using.

I should upload my newest pic from my android to show the difference.

Now that pisses me off

Great answer !! I am exactly like that too and yes I sometimes add a filter to add a bit of a tan to me or use soft lighting too but when I meet anyone I'm always tanned so still me ... let's face it anyone whether 18 or 40 taking a selfie will pic the most flattering one out of the 10 we take

I have 3 children and a mummy tummy and wobbly bits but hope that my better wobbly bits make up for it lol

Your pics are gorgeous btw x

I've seen a couple of brilliant (terrible) Photoshop attempts of people today. If you're going to Photoshop, at least do it well...

I blurred out my hairy legs today. It seemed quicker than shaving them.

I blurred out my arse bruises. Had to be done. Soft focus isn't always nefarious.

I'm pretty much WYSIWYG though I can look different in different pics, even taken at the same time

Irrespective of photos this is what socials are for. Socials save embarrassment and expectations.

I like your style! I edit out my tattoos, I prefer not to have identifying features in my pics.

"A gorgeous forumite tried to tell me last night that she was the result of filters and flattering angles.

I look exactly like my pictures. I deliberately list all my imperfections in my profile - not because I'm insecure about them - but so that once my playmate is aware of them I can relax, forget about them and we can have mind blowing sex and lots of giggles!

I like a filter, I don't Photoshop though. What you see is what you get...but in glorious Technicolor

I sometimes worry that I don't quite live up to my photos. I don't use filters. Other than to black and white. And photoshop is far above my CanBeArsedAbilities. People never seem dissapointed. But they may just be polite! I worry none the less!

I only post a small proportion of pics I take as I look dog rough in most of them and struggle to come up with original ideas. I never photoshop them (I don't know how) but do crop and filter them.

I don't want to mislead anyone but only natural I want to look my best in them, the day I meet someone and they say I'm not like my pictures then I might think again but had no complaints so far.

That's the thing, all my pics are fairly recent and no one's ever said I don't look like my pics, so it's all good
