Another rant... Just listened to report on radio about government needing to provide education for parents about the dangers posed online to children. Now, I do acknowledge children need to be protected but I'm really fucking sick of people passing parental responsibility to the government. Parents are responsible for their children's safety.
If you won't let your child wander the streets at 9pm why the bloody hell are parents letting them do the cyber equivalent!!? Why is it so hard to control this as a parent? I'm a parent and Internet use is heavily regulated. My kids cannot access the Internet without me and if they do need access it, guess what- their ass is sat close to me so I can see and hear everything. We have a family laptop that stays downstairs - it's not allowed in their rooms.
Why do younget kids even need mobile phones? I see so many children with them and they aren't even out of primary school!! I get secondary schoolers having them for safety but do they really need to access the Internet on them?? A couple of my friends have teenagers and they have disabled the Internet access on their kids phones so they can only use it to text or call.
People forget kids are kids, they are essentially a big bundle of impulsivity, hell even biology supports this - brain scan of teenagers indicates that the part of the brain that regulates impulsivity is not fully developed until late adolescence.
I know I'm probably going to face a lot of shit for this

Agree in part.
I would never relinquish control of our kids to government. We are the parents, we decide what they are allowed to do, see, eat etc. We know our kids better than rich people with Nannies.
As regards phones. I dont see a problem with net access. We know all passwords and kids know we can request phone checks if we want.
Parents actually doing some parenting is the only right answer.
Ooohhh my first Thursday rant.

People that leave and absolute mess in a restaurant/bar. (Even worse if they have kids)
Is is really necessary to tear things up? Beer mats, menus, drink labels. Is it necessary to leave food all over the floor? I wouldn't actually mind if they offered to clear it up, the ones that ask for a dustpan and brush, those people can come back (coz for some reason offering to clean it makes me not mind clearing up after them)
The kids that run around the restaurant like it's a playground.
There are waiting staff carrying multiple plates of red hot food, steak knives on the plates too. What the fuck do they think is gonna happen when one of the kids runs into waiter, or the waiter has to pull a severe emergency stop to avoid said little shit.
And the owners of the child? Completely oblivious to the danger, just happy they have 5 minutes peace from the kid. |
