Is January the worst month of the year financially? Do people save money throughout the year for Christmas? Or do you just spend in December and struggle? |

"Is January the worst month of the year financially? Do people save money throughout the year for Christmas? Or do you just spend in December and struggle?" I put some money away every month starting in January

I put money away every month for Christmas and also for the School uniform purchases in September.
I also put a small amount in a savings account for both my children every month, plus a small amount gets paid into a credit union in case of a financial emergency.

"I had £400 left at the end of December. I have no idea how.
Remember that gas bill you meant to pay but was in a hurry..."
Lol nope. I pay every bill with monthly direct debit.
What's even weirder is that I was overdrawn in October. I must have done some nifty money management in December. |

Every month I scrape by through the skin of my teeth! I did however put away each month for Christmas last year and will be doing the same this Year and as someone has said all my bills are paid so.... I'll just eat beans on toast till pay day ! |

We get paid 5 days earlier in December, which deffo does not help, but am glad I done 2 extra shifts at Christmas as I don't celebrate it, and wanted 1 of the staff who celebrate spend time with family, and just got paid £200 today which is such a bonus.
All we seem to do in this country is work and pay bills, outgoings outgoings and outgoings |

I know not everyone's circumstances are the same but what about savings? Does anyone put any money aside every month for the 'future' or is that not counted in when you say 'skint'?

Budget over the year.
Never spent more than I had for Christmas.
I love the holiday, but I'm not going to go broke for a few pressies.
This year we splashed out more than usual. Which present went down best?
A £15-£20 toy over all the rest.

We're on one income at the moment so there is no savings and there's no spare to make any savings. We make sure the bills are paid before anything else. |

Which is exactly how the current elite establishment want it to be. In the UK The richest 10% of households hold 45% of all wealth. The poorest 50%, by contrast, own just 8.7%
If people keep voting for these same people (public school educated etc) and supporting the status quo the situation will get worse. People, in the main, are too stupid to see what is actually happening. |

I hate the fact that people feel the need to get into debt, or skint themselves due to Christmas (angry face)
It boils my blood when the adverts start in September for credit for the perfect magical Christmas (even angrier face) |

Then in January come the sales adverts for spring collections and payday loans rammed in our faces. |

I was being flexible with the meaning of the word "lend" - with a bit of financial and lettery manipulation, it becomes an anagram of "give" |

No we aren't skint over Christmas. Due to a fault of the tax man combined with an inept hr department I (mr) paid way too much tax at the start of the year leading to hmrc refunding me about £200 a week since the summer. Despite some slightly extravagant spending and a bit of unemployment for mrs on account of moving we've still got a reasonable chunk of money stashed away having paid for everything.
Having a bit of backup in the account feels like such a relief after not having any money spare for a long time |

I don't specifically save for Christmas but don't go into debt either for it, we do try to live by the motto if we can't afford it we don't have it.
Fred always jokes that I'm a miser but we manage to live perfectly well on one wage for best part of 13 years, and we do save every month. |

I started doing this last year and then realised that coming up to Christmas you were going to have to put around £3 a day so thought perhaps it would be better to do it the other way round.
I'm not very disciplined so ended up just putting loose change and the occasional notes in, but still managed to save around £500 which I used for holiday spending money last October. |

Quite lucky really bought a house when they were quite cheap and sold at a good price. Also careful spending means I have a buffer in my account.
If I ended up sacked or had to leave work I could go about 6-8 months without needing to find a job.
Fully appreciate it is a nice place to be in and don't envy those in overdrafts |

We never have much spare cash but December hit us pretty hard, although now we have something to get our finances in order for and on a very tight budget for the next 14 months until after our wedding x
