I suppose being 2 is a little young to be left unsupervised, but my children go and play of their room (older than 2), but when they were 2 they'd be in the living room whilst I was in the kitchen cooking, so they weren't being fully supervised but within earshot, can't have eyes on them 24/7. I'm just curious as to why they had a webcam on the children. |

There is two versions of the video a short one that makes it look like the kid helped his brother straight away and the full version in the ful version the kid gets trapped by the drawers falling on him and then the other kid just sits down and plays for a bit then climbs on top of the drawers still on top of the other child in total it's about 5 mins before the other kid try's to even move the drawers. But the sorter version makes it look like he is only trapped for a moment |

The whole situation was odd. A little bit "If we show the world how heroic one kid was, they might not ask why we weren't there." Next thing you know they'll be writing a book about it and threatening to sue any "conspiracy theorists"... |

I thought the same too. And surely you would hear furniture fall, and I suspect the boy under the furniture wasn't quiet.  |

Yep, all of it seemed odd to me and then to show the film about it off. I think it didn't come across very good so it backfired for me |

I don't know anyone nor have I ever heard of anyone securing a small shelving unit to a wall. |

We saw the longer version and we're both rather horrified.
Our children are much older than two now but even still, if we hear a bang then we go flying upstairs to see what's happened.
How did the parents not hear the crash of the drawers or the screaming of the poor child.
We wondered whether the parents were even home but maybe that's a little harsh.
I realise we can't keep an eye on our children every minute of the day but we can damn well try.

They're children , they get up to mischief. You can't stand over them 24/7.

Thankfully yes, no harm done. No, you can't watch them 24 hours a day.
Back to the video though, I find it worrying that the child didn't scream for his parents and the parents heard nothing. |

The miracle was the fact the 2nd drawer from the top opened slightly which prevented the child from being crushed completely. I could see on the video that it was propping up the unit and therefore not squashing the child.

I saw a third version of the video which didn't show the child playing but did show him walking around looking trying to help before he pushed the unit away. Not quite instant help.

Securing units to walls has become very common now since ikea recalled a similar unit in 2015 due to the death of a child who pulled the unit onto themselves. I have the very same unit. Mine isn't secured but then again I'm 6ft 4 so I don't need to worry  |
