There's a lot of Fassbender torso on show, standard good vs evil with a God twist, way too many overhead/arial shots and it could have done with just a moment of humour.

Yeah I think the books are just tie ins. If they like gaming and reading get them Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. It's a ya novel all about video games |

Sad to say that 99% of movies based on games turn out to be turds. A lot of them aren't widely known because the bomb so hard.
I can think of one recent exception: Street Fighter Assassin's Fist was a great little series... but it wasn't a movie so it doesn't really count here |
