if your profile is good and that gives us something to start a conversation then hi is ok with people who can start conversations.
basically you're just letting us know you're interested and that's all you need to do initially.
and i know youre laughing about talking about mundane things but i'd rather talk about stuff like this than have half the conversations i end up ignoring where the guy just sexualises me and i'm nothing more than a wank sock to him. |

When I message someone it's usually for a reason, something I've seen on their profile I can comment on or something they have put on the forum that I am interested in. I'm not that desparate that I'm inclined to say hi to everyone in my area.
Messages that start as hi usually go like this:

Most people go wrong by not reading our profile. I don't think it's too long but definitely gives an idea of how to start a convo with us and how best to approach the conversation.

If I don't like a profile for being like that then no I'd pass it by simples not stop by and just say "Hi". I choose to message profiles with something in them and pick something out of the profile or status that makes me laugh. Often resulting in conversations or meets. |

Surely the idea of a profile IF READ will give you something to talk about more than just hi etc, but that only works if the person you are wishing to chat to writes 1! Some women on here don't have any info about them, I stay away from them as they can't be bothered to put anything I can't be bothered to message them. I don't just go off looks, explore the lady to get to know her better the sex is far better! |

looking at my profile there actually isn't anything to chat about apart from sex. maybe that is where some of us are going wrong?

If just sending 'Hi' works for you guys then carry on, if someone wants to just send me a 'Hi' message they had better have an interesting profile if they expect a reply.
If they are not expecting a reply, then no harm done, as they are easy to ignore, but that is just me |

not with guys i've never met, no. it won't turn me on in the lsightest. in the forums i enjoy discussion (and sometimes sex chat but it's rare).
i don't mind chatting about interests to clarify that we are into the same things but i'd really prefer to talk about mundane things only. |

I agree with you if they say anything that would be construed as inappropriate face to face I just ignore.
As to what the men were asking why not refer to the profile, not an essay but, for example in my case, hi I love blondes and I'm also looking for more than just a one off. I'd then like that to be backed up with a nice profile and pics to see if there's an attraction  |

I kind of get your point but you can't really go wrong with hi lol but if you think that's lazy whats your opener?
When I message someone it's usually for a reason, something I've seen on their profile I can comment on or something they have put on the forum that I am interested in. I'm not that desparate that I'm inclined to say hi to everyone in my area.
Messages that start as hi usually go like this:
Hi
Hello how are you?
Good. Fancy a meet?
Boring boring boring!! And currently how alot of the single guys on here think will get them a meet. It doesn't. They just get deleted. But hey if hi works for you then you stick with it."
