Brighton - even Hove!

For £60 an hour, I'll motivate myself for free.

If you're struggling for motivation and you can afford it, go for it. It was the only way I managed to motivate myself to exercise.

Do it!

I think hiring a personal trainer is an investment in your health and well being.

They will help you with your diet, workout programme, goals, form and motivation.

Well worth doing. Just do your research and find a personal trainer who cares about their clients and not just lining their pockets. There is a huge difference between a personal trainer and a great personal trainer. The difference is results with them will be huge too.

I had a female personal trainer, now I'm almost a qualified personal trainer and will be using a fellow female PT.

I wouldn't dream of having a threesome with anyone I have worked with in a professional sense.

Same in mine.

Local gym have personal trainers that can help you.

And it is a great idea.

I have tried one few years back when I could not motivate myself and I had an injury and needed help with motivation but also with the appropriate exercises for my body type, my injury and what I wanted to achieve.

Do it for a couple months to get you started, get as much info from your trainer to take with you when you are ready to fly solo.

Good luck and have fun OP

Depends what you want from it. Fitness or toning up.

Been training for 3 years. I've never once paid for advice. YouTube. Books. Talking to people. Watching there form. Mix it up every few months as you're body adapts. Pre work out drinks. A strong coffee before can help. And my motivation is when I look in the mirror

Cheers for the feedback

Seems a bulk session price would be ideal to start then hopefully will have the motivation to go it alone

I tried that advice but by the end of the week I was 44 miles from home

The trick is to make it a circular walk so you end up back home each time

Best thing I did was sign up for a sprint distance triathlon. Mixture of training has taken me from almost 20 stone to 14 (nearly 15 at the moment thanks to mince pies) Over a about 2 years. I got a Garmin sports watch that tracks my running etc and I know I'm improving.

Nothing wrong paying for advice and a little push in the right direction.

Better that than being miserable on the sofa I say.

Some people need help to get motivated depending on their circumstances.

Some people need a human interaction instead of a screen/online experience.

Lots of different people out there.

I have done classes in the past but recently got a trainer and the results are far better with the trainer. Both worked though.

Running wise...

Free stuff like couchto5k (I think there's an app, and some places organise running groups) then parkrun which can be a good motivator.

Definitely worth the money - I still need that little push a bit further to get the results I want.

It really depends on two things: 1) what you want to get from it, and 2) how much spare cash you have.

Same here, I pay around £ 65 (depending on exchange rate) and it is the difference between night and day not just for motivation.

As an analogy : You can learn a foreign language from books and tapes but there is nobody to correct your mistakes, improve you, challenge you and develop you so progress will be slower.

With a good PT (and really there lies the difference) you will get nutritional advice on things like macros, carbs and protein balance etc to name but a couple, as well as good (lift) posture and the right combination of various weight training exercises.

The best personal investment I have ever made was my PT.

I'd have him for half an hour so long as he can talk fast.

Central

Motivation is key for your health and training pursuits and trainers may do s couple of things -

Motivate you to turn up for an appointment, as you'd lose your cash - or

Push you s little further in your accomplishments, because you're observed and in good hands.

I use personal trainers a lot and it helps enforce my attendance if I'm a little tired etc.

But I think it helps you to secure your own motivation before you embark on a programme, if you can.

Have a free consultation with one, if possible, discussing your situation.

It is not my listening that does it - I still have to exercise hard!!
