Yeah just sorted my bike over Christmas, new inner tube, bit of service and plenty of lube.
Did half of my usual circuit, got a little saddle sore lol.
But the cold air didn't help matters, didn't want to get chest infection |

I used to do 70 miles a week, when I was training for the Manchester to Blackpool night ride for the British Heart Foundation.
I loved taking part in that, in fact I might just make that my New Year resolution, to complete that ride again in 2017. |

I ride a road bike about 100miles a week "
Thats great going. It's a really good hobby and I find it therapeutic, an all over work out for the body and mind |

I've done that one twice, both times we rode home from Blackpool to up the mileage to 112 miles round trip.
TBH it wasn't the distance that was tough as its a very flat route for 80+ miles, it was the time of day! Whilst it was lovely seeing the sunrise over the hills, my body clock was shot to hell.. |

I was doing between 70 to 90 miles a week, but recently that's dropped off and next year I'm determined to get back up there again next year.
I do like building bikes as well; especially giving old ones new leases of life. |

It's worth googling something like railway trails or railway cycle paths. There is old railways lines all over the place that has been made into a path for people, walkers, joggers, cyclists etc. We ride the Liverpool loopline often, it's an 11 mile stretch running from fazakerly to hslewood in Liverpool, it forms part of the Pennine cycle path.
We also do some of the go sky ride stuff, it's changing name next year. If your new to cycling or want someone to ride with, it's defo worth a look.
We don't do many big popular rides, it seems like it's all about raisin obey for charity and the ride is an after thought. |

The line we ride is quite well looked after. Sustrans is great, every cycle path in the country is on there I think, it's all charity stuff aswell, that is 1 charity I wouldn't mind raising money for.
There is an old line called the cinder trail, 21 miles from Scarborough to Whitby I want to do next year, over the old arched train bridges and though the old tunnels. |

The bits that have been done are great... until it ends on a dual carriageway (North Wales) or just goes nowhere as per the local one here.
I remember originally it was all about linking routes up everywhere but that was about 15 years ago. |

Someone should start a fab strava group!
I prefare routes that start an Finnish in the same place, somewhere we can park the car and not worry about getting lost.
There is a big trail centre in north Wales, it's in a working forest so when you go, it's always abit different. The tails are basically loops graded differently around the forest. There is a big park in Liverpool called Sefton park, around the perimeter is about 2.5 miles, some times we'll just do a few loops around there.
The weather is crap at the moment, can't wait for it to warm up abit! |

Yes I never took to road for that reason. When I was racing track regularly it was 15 years ago and a lot more niche than it is now and always seemed safe probably because the B cats were more interested in fun and getting home safe than taking stupid risks. I think that's changed now with the popularity. But I'm moving to welwyn soon and will have a track on my doorstep, and I still have a track bike (and 2 other fixed bikes!) so who knows! |

I used to time trial and road race many years ago.. Averaged around 50 miles per day...i was very fit and fairly successful.. Unfortunately a bad knee injury stopped all that and i still get twinges years later to stop me doing anything serious... Luckily my fitness hasnt completely gone though...
When i was out on a run on my own I used to love stopping off and going into the woods or somewhere remote and strip naked and wank... secretly hoping i would be caught or seen... unfortunately i never was.. or fortunately depending on the possible outcome... |

Short 21 miles on the big MTB today due to black ice on the roads - not risking binning my carbon roadie in those conditions.
Unfortunately I came off today, combination of ice & slick mud caught me out whilst riding the lip of a 9ft deep ravine. Bounced onto the ravine floor only for the bike (all 34lb of it) to follow me down and smack me on the back of the head. Fortunately I had one of my helmets on. |

I cant do that as im a community nurse and cycle round my calls
Doing that woukd mean getting changed and back into cycling clothes at every call i did and i do about 20 calls a day
So you really have been out in the worst of the cold the last week or so "
I go out in it all
6am in 2 foot of snow
You name it ive cycled round in it
Some years its been that bad I've only been able to cycle the main roads and had to push my bike round the side roads where the snow and ice hasn't melted
Illness don't wait for no man |

"It wasn't short weather out on the bike this morning!
That's why my cycling wardrobe is as big as my cross-dressing wardrobe!
Get the right kit & you can ride in pretty much any weather. one of my favourite quotes is "there is no such thing as bad weather, just poor clothing choices"

Absolutely -- hard as nails! While not a fully paid up member of the fair weather cyclist club, I may occasionally fanny out if it's raining too hard... |

Taken from the rules of cycling.
"Rule #9 // If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.
Fair-weather riding is a luxury reserved for Sunday afternoons and wide boulevards. Those who ride in foul weather – be it cold, wet, or inordinately hot – are members of a special club of riders who, on the morning of a big ride, pull back the curtain to check the weather and, upon seeing rain falling from the skies, allow a wry smile to spread across their face. This is a rider who loves the work." |

Rode the North York Moors on my last Coast to Coast, blooming hard work after day 1 riding from the Cumbrian coast to past Barnard Castle, taking in Tan Hill in freezing rain & fog. |

I bike to work most days although it's only a short trip, but i do want to do more, just bought a new boardman Cyclocross which needs to be properly unleashed, and I've just signed up for our local 100km sportive in April... |

"Yes love it doing my third Ride London 100 this year." I'm not entering the ballot this year. After last years chaos it's put me off. I did 2014 when it pissed down and they shortened it to 86 miles to avoid Box Hill and Leath Hill and the following year. I entered the ballot last year and didn't get a place.

"What do you mean, you entered the ballot?
Why did they shorten the ride, what's wrong with the 2 place's that you never went to?
We are doing the Liverpool Chester ride again this year."
they get WAY more entries than places so it's picked at random. You don't pay unless you get a place but you have to apply. It's possible to get a place through a charity but you have to commit to raise a certain amount of money for them.
The year it was shortened it pissed down and a sewer collapsed under one of the big hills on the route I believe and because of the amount of water they decided the descent was too dangerous on the other hill.
I probably won't enter any more sportives, gonna stick with triathlons or try an MTB enduro race. |

Mainly a Mountain Bike rider here, but being in North Wales that's to be expected.
Road ride occasionally, did a 24 hour London to Paris run last year that was bizarrely enjoyable. |

I'm unfit
Just been out for a spin, 24.5 miles at an average of 16.4mph with 1500ft of climbing. I've averaged 18mph+ over that route before now.
First evening ride of the year - best get some practice in! |

Yep, bastard climb to the top is always a bugger. But it's all downhill (mostly from there).
Was up there yesterday, but one of my headset bearings decided to collapse on me so had to abort my ride |

Last time I was up at the Marin (which was a couple of years back) it was really badly hacked up. Didn't enjoy it at all, and I do like technical stuff.
Love Coed y Brenin but don't get the chance to get out there as often as I like. |

I'm an avid road cyclist and do sportives across the country. If I can I try to visit the nearest swingers club while I'm in the area and combine my love of swinging with cycling
Tour of Cambridge and Jaydees are next on the calendar. Anyone else doing the ToC |

Marin smash trail smashes your bike up pretty bad I think... the dragons back section over the limestone just destroys it.
Llandegla is technical and soft but has black runs so I love it.
Not tried brenin yet... |

I don't mind the early bits where it zigzags through the trees but the long straight climb bores me and knackers me equally. |

"Love getting around on the bikes.....road and mountain. Prefer distances on the road bike and have lots of charity rides in so far. aiming for coast to coast again this year if things work out. new bike is next on the list in January sales!!"
What coast to coast is that one, as I did the Liverpool to Scarborough 'Fun' ride twice years ago. |
