You say you will use it on road & on the South Downs?
How rough are your local trails?
How about another option - a cyclocross or 'adventure' bike?
Drop barred for a more efficient ride on the road but with wider wheels/knobbly tyres & a wider gear spread for off road use.
MTB' are great off road (I own two full sussers) but horrible on tarmac. If I we're in your position I'd seriously consider one of the new gravel/adventure bikes. Similar to a cyclocross bike but a less racy position. |
