Despite endless coverage and speculation, celebrity deaths in 2016 are not above the normal distribution...

In case you were wondering.

.

Have more famous people died in 2016?

I was thinking about this today. It also makes sense that more celebrities will be dying because there are more celebrities (statistically) today than ever before and the ones dying now are the ones we remember from when we were children, so it hits closer to home.

But as far as 2016 as a whole, not just in terms of celebrity deaths, it can fuck right off

It's tragic losing anyone - and I didn't know Carrie had departed too. Sad days.

2016 has been good ... and terrible in many ways ... let's hope 2017 is better ... and trump goes away together with the Kardashians and kanye West....

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

Richard Adams was a bit of a blow too, although he was 96.

I think the problem is there have been a few more unexpected deaths this year.

There's gonna be plenty more to shuffle off this mortal coil next year as well.

That's life

Near Carmarthen

Around 21,000 people died of hunger yesterday and the day before etc. Don't see to much written about that compared to some rich 'star'.

Strange priorities our society seems to have to me.

It says 2016 as a whole has seen more die.

"2016 has seen the largest number of famous people die, but it was that bump at the beginning of the year that made it so unusual."

2012 - 14 deaths

2013 - 23 deaths

2014 - 29 deaths

2015 - 32 deaths

2016 - 42 deaths

although the article was written on 16th December, and doesn't include Rick Parfitt, George Michael, Lz Smith and Carrie Fisher, so it should be 46.

So, substantially more than the previous years it measures against.

I am not the one to pull the names out of the hat but I find it sad there is such a focus on celebrity deaths when there have been so many writers, philanthropists, humanitarians and selfless others who have died this year, that are not gaining the spotlight of recognition in this dreadful years end.

RIP.

There's more to my fuck you than celebs dying....

The Nice and Berlin attacks, Brexit, Trump, Syria and my best mate (of 20 years) not talking to me after a d*unken argument/shoveathon

wherever i need to be

The loss of many of the celebs can be seen as quite sad as they were amazing talents to lose. But we have that talent recorded for posterity in their writings, music and films.

But for most of us it's the personal loses, trials and tribulations that mean this year has been tough.

so in my case it's purely for personal reasons that 2016 can get tae feck!

Empathy and compassion arent limited. I can mourn a celebrity and still have plenty left for the 300,000 who died needlessly in Syria

First rule of statistics tho': Numbers go up and down.

"So 2016 has seen the largest number of famous people die, but it was that bump at the beginning of the year that made it so unusual.

Although there does seem to have been an inexorable rise, Serpell says there hasn't been any change in the BBC's policy on what sort of person qualifies for an obituary.

He thinks that the increase isn't particularly surprising, because we're now half a century on from the flourishing of both TV and pop culture in the 1960s, which massively expanded the overall pool of public figures.

You're going to have to get used to hearing the celebrity obituary."

Yes, it kind of brings home our own mortality when we see the people that we 'grew up with' dying.

Well said. 2016 can just fuck right off.

I lost my Mum in February unexpectedly following a massive heart attack and it's been so hard to come to terms with having had to spend almost a week watching her in a coma knowing she was never going to come round, even willing her to pass on so she didn't suffer any longer.

You'd think that was the worse thing that could happen, but no, 2016 had even more shit to throw

So yes 2016, fuck off. You've wrenched my heart right out
