Of all unconditional love in the world, there's no one more deserving of a thank you then all angels that sacrifice their time into saving our lives.

Your altruistic act allow us to spend Christmas with our loved ones, whilst sacrificing yours.

We owe our happiness to you. Thank you for being here for us even when we're undeserving .

A Very Merry Christmas and a wonderful new year.

I think you have to be a very caring human being to work in the nursing profession, they save lives and work hard.It isnt just a job,a bin man or a painter and decorator cant do a heart transplant or take your apendix out.The Doctors Surgeons,Nurses ,where would we be without them. They do a fantastic job.

Nurses doctors and many others do us great service 24 / 7 365 days a year.

For Christmas we should thank the sprout farmers.

Let's give thanks for all who contribute to a working society, especially those that work anti social hours, to allow the rest of us space and safety to enjoy our families. Social cooperation is good, it may get stressed at times, but it mostly works.

I'll go with that. One day i'll need a nurse but for the past few weeks it's been gas fitters that have figured large in my life.

I value all -especially the unlauded , overlooked and ignored.

Is it altruistic if you get paid to do it?! Hmmm

I have respect for anyone who chooses to work in an industry that has to work over the Christmas period, or any other national holiday for that matter. Emergency services, prison officers, health and social care workers, retail workers, there area lot more than just Dr's and nurses that sacrifice their family time to keep things going.

Not to me too volunteers such as the Samaritans who make sure that there is always someone there to listen of someone is finding it all too much but for them....surely they are the altruistic ones?

I don't think any one profession is better than a other. That's kind of elitist. We need all sorts of people doing all sorts of jobs to make this country work.

I commend you for all your time, caring and sensitivity, without people like you and your fellow nurses, a stay in hospital is tolerable (where I am now) and seeing a friendly smiling face adds to the healing process. Thank you.

Where would we be without any of those who contribute to society? Doesn't matter what service someone provides we should appreciate them equally and not make comparisons or say one is more committed or deserves more praise than the other.

Let me point the meaning of the message. It's a thank you. In this case a specific group. Just, a plain, thank you.

Like you thank someone who opens the door to you.

You don't go around thanking the guy who built the door, the guy o plant the tree, the guy who designed the door nor the person who decided to put a door where you were. I thank only the person who hold the door to you. I that's the point on my thank you message.

But thank you for your input, is much appreciated! And thank your mum and your dad to have had you so I could thank you. Oh! And your grandparents too. Thank you! Thank you all!

I don't thank everyone I meet for the job they do but I don't laud one profession over another either which is the point i was making. The person I quoted was making the point that Dr's and nurses are better than bin men or painters and decorators which I think is elitism and wrong.

So must policemen, prison officers, retail workers (some of them at least) chefs, bar staff, care workers, fire men, call centre staff (I've done it) and a while raft of other professions. All as important as the others, even those who don't have to work Christmas day. Not to mention, as I stated earlier, those who give their time volunteering

Probably more the point that healthcare professionals dedicate a huge amount of their personal and unpaid hours to the NHS. No other industry I'm aware of has that, and lately, the government are really screwing their frontline staff.

Doctors and nurses are underpaid (and unpaid) for the hours they actually put in.

The OP makes a nice gesture that's all.

We all depend on b(w)ankers, bin men, cleaners, decorators but I think you'll find a doctor has the potential to do these jobs if they chose to.

Oh but they do. If I got paid for all the times I didn't get a break or had to stay on shift, I actually would be rich. Besides, with the pay freeze and the rising cost of living, we now earn far less than we did 6 years ago.

Same here but still don't class it as unpaid just comes with the job. Agree with being paid less in real terms though. Many more people in worse jobs than myself.

"

No one does unpaid work fella but yes nurses are definitely underpaid and being screwed over by management and the government.

The men I oversee (and spent Christmas Day & today watching so you could sleep soundly in your bed) do a lot of unpaid work. Usually around 70 hours.

Who were they?

The apparent scum of society who, according to some on the forum, should be hung, drawn and quartered repeatedly until they are dead. "

The threads about doctors and nurses doing a great job not prisoners doing unpaid work

I am certainly not saying that others who work at their profession dont do a wonderful job, because they do,and yes we all play our part in society.Have you ever been in an Accident and Emergency Dept on a weekend and seen the, abuse nurses and doctors have to enjure, the d*unks and the drug addicts, yet they have to tend to them the same as someone who has a heart attack. They are not aloud to refuse to treat anyone that goes into A/E.They are worth their weight in gold.

I think most would agree. It's just your first post mentioning bin men and painting and decorators seemed a little condescending.

Most in the emergency services don't look for praise or think their job has more worth than another and I'm sure you didn't mean for your post to come across that way.

Have a peaceful and happy Christmas.

I laud nurses above most other professions. It takes a special person to go in to a profession knowing how many sacrifices and how little reward will be gotten.

(and a patient partner to put up with the shifts )

"I think you have to be a very caring human being to work in the nursing profession, they save lives and work hard.It isnt just a job,a bin man or a painter and decorator cant do a heart transplant or take your apendix out.The Doctors Surgeons,Nurses ,where would we be without them. They do a fantastic job.

I don't think any one profession is better than a other. That's kind of elitist. We need all sorts of people doing all sorts of jobs to make this country work.

....No what i meant by that was we all have a job to do,nobody is better than anyone else.

I agree they do a wonderful job but what about the poorly paid shop assistants who work up to the last minute and then back again today?

The staff in the restaurants and bars that stay open the whole way through?

Sure they aren't saving lives as such but most people deserve respect for their work

Perhaps, but I think nurses deserve a little more.

Exactly, nurses spend most of their time making beds and helping people on and off the toilet. necessary work but not life saving 90% of the time.

Living in a structured society allows us to apportion tasks to those with the aptitude. If the OP has an overwhelming urge to express gratitude to a portion of society then go for it. but let's not go making saints out of people who probably are not.

yes it is... so why do they qualify as underpaid angels, while a chambermaid clearing up after a fab sqirter meet is OK on minimum wage? just saying...

They chose a career that involves administering drugs that if fucked up will kill people. That involves supporting children in unimaginable pain. Helping parents deal with the pain of watching their babies die. Helping teenagers write their final letters to say goodbye.

That's when they get time from making beds of course

Just saying.

Nurses don't make beds any more. Untrained staff do that. There are very few highly trained people on a ward these days.

These two days I served roughly 400 guests and worked 24 hours. Got £20 on rips, bad responses, obnoxious answers and "wannabe posh" tits... And I get minimum wage. ( Very nice people too)

Yet, I believe that watching people die and come back from the dead, clean vomit from the people who leave my work place, cleaning blood, asses, etc, is more worthy of a thank you than me at what I do.

Truly, everyone is entitled to an opinion but mostly are missing the point.

Is just a thank you note. Like any of you would thank an engineer for their work, a waiter, a shop assistant, a cleaner , a bin man ( they will have their box of chocolate on the collection dau), etc.

IT'S NOT ABOUT WHO'S BETTER. IT'S A PLAIN THANK YOU

Granted some do, sometimes, work in intensely emotional situations.

The drugs thing, I have to do that for my mother most of the year, no training other than an ability to read the labels.

I have recent experience of bad nursing care which does cloud my judgement, but in every profession there are great, average and piss poor examples to be found.

Not shouting. I'm highlighting.

No bloody choice is there when there's only one HCA on shift who is scrubbing and a woman has just walked through the door in advanced labour!

We can do CNST standards in the blink of an eye.

"Of all unconditional love in the world, there's no one more deserving of a thank you then all angels that sacrifice their time into saving our lives.

Your altruistic act allow us to spend Christmas with our loved ones, whilst sacrificing yours.

We owe our happiness to you. Thank you for being here for us even when we're undeserving .

A Very Merry Christmas and a wonderful new year. "

Thank you for your touching message and it does show that we are appreciated for the job we love doing even though we sacrifice our own private lives.
