"It might be a specialist care home, housing dementia or altimeter patients. Most old folks homes would be secured housing so random people can't just walk in. You probably wouldn't want someone with dementia in your home either - much as it's a kind thought, they would get disorientated quickly causing arguments or in some cases even attack. You'd then be the subject to police enquiry. "

"I had the idea a week ago to ring the old folks home over the road from me and see if there was anyone that had no familly that would like to join us on Christmas day. I rang them today to ask and they said unless i was a regustered cearer and had insurance them they couldnt let anyone come. So do old folk bot have the right to do as they please anymore. I mean its not like we all owe old folk anything is it. They didnt fight a war for us. Makes my blood boil." Replace vulnerable elderly person with child in care. Care homes are constantly in the news for the wrong reasons. Do you honestly think itca good idea to let an old person go off with anyone? There are dozens of organisations crying out for volunteers...check them out!

My parents are very elderly but luckily with help remain at home. The number of people who assume that age = mental incapacity is staggering. I can't tell you how many times professional people talk to me about parents even though they're present. However the home will have a duty of care to their residents and also to you they're doing the right thing. If you get the ball rolling now you will be able to invite a resident for Christmas 2017

"What exactly is boiling your piss OP? The fact that they maybe classed as vulnerable adults who need safeguarding and the care home is trying to look after them? Do you seriously think it is appropriate to let you in just because you want to go? There are plenty of other charities that need help at Xmas time. Maybe chose one of them instead of attacking people who are just doing their job." Let me in where???? I wanted to know if any of the residents would like to join me and my familly for the day

"Just because they are old it dosnt mean they are all venerable. Some of them are very sound and are only there due to disabilities and no familly. So if a grown adult chooses to go out for the day who are they to stop them. " Well, for a start they're too old and frail to stop you so it shouldn't be hard

Hi Mabel, Do you want to share your Christmas day with all the other people here that you know and get on with or some strangers over the road who you have never met and have no idea of their political or religious leanings. ?

Sad though it may be, were the owners of the home to act as agents, they would be responsible if anything went wrong. A nice gesture but I understand why the home will not help. Perhaps you could offer to help in the kitchen or dinng room instead?

Working with vulnerable elderly or children is a mindfield. Rules are put in place to safeguard the people who need it.

" Jesus. Whats wrong with people. Most of them will be with their own family and some will be left in the home alone. I just thougjt it would be nice to ask if any of them would like to come for dinner. There are far to many selfish self righteous twats in here. Maybe if you wasnt all so self absorbed the world wouldnt be in such a state. Obviously not aimed at everyone.

Just aimed at the sanctimonious , don't get it, self righteous , self absorbed twats. Remember...... a pensioner is for life, not just for Christmas. I hope you get your pensioner O.P. It's a lovely idea. ( I hope they are okay with foul language xx )

"Unless they're nonagenarians, chances are, no, they didn't fight in the War for you. " My grandad is in a home and always spends Xmas at my parents for dinner. And to see in his birthday which is Boxing Day... this year he's 96 this year! So there's still plenty living in homes

" being disabled and alone simply makes then vulnerable - i work in a specialist home for dementia and brain injuries and most have dols in place but some dont and if they wanted to in theory they can go wherever they want - i would have suggested going in to the home as a volunteer but you need to be police checked yourself to do that -

So if a grown adult chooses to go out for the day who are they to stop them. I have to have an indepth crb check every sux months so thats not a problem. This is just a simple assisted living home. No mental health or anything like that. Obviously id not exoect to be able to take a menatlly ill person into my home nor anyone with and health issuses.
