Just watching a news report on loneliness, especially at Christmas. The report is focusing on the elderly. But wondering how others interpret being lonely? Do people use Fab to combat their loneliness?

I wouldn't use the word loneliness but I do use the forums to chat with others, not because I feel lonely but to have an interaction with people, on subject I wouldn't necessarily talk about in my regular life.

same here :D
Being a lone parent, means my social life with physical people/friends is over when my daughter goes to bed.
Using the internet as a tool makes me feel like i am still interacting with people in some form. |

Not loneliness, I pass time reading threads that interest me or created by people I admire. I could watch TV or find other things to do. I post very little these days but it still passes the time. |

Strangely yes I do use fab to combat my loneliness as it's not that easy for me to get out. But I know that when I'm down in the dumps and my usual things don't lift me that it's time for me to force myself out of my flat. I'm at that point atm so tomorrow I'm going to make the effort and go into town n have a coffee at Costa. Xxx |

"Loneliness at Xmas? Yes.
Using fab to combat it? Errr, no. "
I will say, the fab forums do allow me to interact with types of people I don't normally get a chance to, especially on subjects I can rarely broach in the vanilla world. |

"Being alone doesnt always equate to being lonely. You can be surrounded by people on a daily basis and still feel lonely."
Agreed. It's possible to feel very lonely next to someone in a double bed. |

Yep, I use fab in an attempt to negate my loneliness..... But I have to be honest, it doesn't help and lots of the time it probably makes things worse.

Interesting responses...for me, I'm not sure loneliness is an issue. I enjoy time on my own or at least in my own head. I have however, struggled with self worth and that can be a lonely place, even when those around you 'sing your praises'. I didn't join fab because I was lonely, more so I was very intrugued and somewhat plagued about my idea of sexuality.
And in doing so met someone very special. I guess therefore that every quandary has the possibility of something amazing.

This is so true, and possibly the hardest form of loneliness. |

i've brought up 4 kids, hardly had a minute to myself until this past couple of years, love being on my own now. that might change one day.
i use fab as a time pass and place to think about sex and meeting for sex. |

I'm frequently surrounded by people but often feel lonely. There was a period where I was using meets to escape it but realised that way silly and unfair for all concerned. Now I tend to keep my social life separate. Even stopped the hanky panky with my longest FB and we've become very good friends instead |
