So I just started a new job a few weeks, left an employer I worked for 8yrs and now I'm the newbie. ..

The team I am now working with are so cliquey and I feel like an outsider and it's really uncomfortable

Anyone who asks " how's the new job"

I'm saying " yeah its ok "

IT SUCKS !!

Feel better for saying it

Brighton - even Hove!

It will probably get better. It's a bit like fab, we were all new once and didn't fit in.

Give it some time, don't get upset. Be a bit patiant, just be yourself and smile.

Give it time, it's early days. Could you not suggest a night out? A few drinks and a laugh and it'll help break the ice.

Chances are there will be one or two 'ringleaders' that everyone follows but secretly hates.

Once you research the true dynamic of the office you can see who would be worth making friends with

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

It took me a year to get truly comfortable in my current job. I love it now.

Give it a chance. organise something for the team. I did a bake Off for Sports Relief, and organised the Christmas Meal. Maybe bake some cupcakes to take in.

Stick at it and you'll feel like part of the furniture before you know it

You will.

People can be really cliquey I wish they'd remember what being new was like.

I'm really sorry to hear that

I started a new job three months ago and I love it, but it took a few weeks to acclimatise.

Give it time and maybe set a deadline. If you still hate it in x amount of weeks/months then look for something else.

Always remember you have options. I hope it works out. Good luck

not far from iceland,,,,,, tescos is nearer though :-) (near leeds)

I've been employed in jobs I disliked, I guess I was always lucky that the other folk I worked with made the job tolerable, I used the employr as a paid employment service continued working for them while seeking alternate employment...

Hope things sort themselves out op ..if not paid employment service.

I've been in my job for 13 year and it's all new staff that are coming in and I feel like an outsider, so I know how you feel.

You will be alright OP; be yourself, don't change to fit in... be who you are and let people warm to you. Deep breaths, you WILL get there

This is so true.

Try to relax and smile (though inwardly this may be difficult), project nice thoughts towards them all, then gradually you will find them gravitating towards you.

Give it a bit longer. It's really hard when you move to a new team who have their own dynamic and their own politics. It can take a while to break into that. Hope you feel a bit better about it soon.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

It is a clique at first. They know each other and what they'll tolerate from each other. In your old organisation of 8 years, everyone new coming in felt you were part of a clique. The next person that comes in will see you as part of that same clique.

Remember why you wanted the job. You didn't apply to somewhere to make new friends. Work on getting to grips with that and decide whether it is really a role you want. If it is then make life easier by getting to know your colleagues.

Instant work friendships rarely work. Take the time to understand who your allies are and who you need to be watch.

It's always hard starting a new job so don't beat yourself up about something that doesn't pay your salary.

I'm desperately looking for a new job - costing me £45-£50 a week to travel to work every week and also on the road and hour and fifteen minutes every day. My big worry is how will I cope in a new environment. Keep telling yourself to stay strong - relationships develop in time x Have hope and just be yourself xx

Let us know how you get on x
