Alistair brownlee for what he did for his brother the other month and helped him over the line and it meant he came second when he could have won. That's what sport is all about.

But I think it's going to be Mr No Personality Andy Murray for getting to world number one.

I'd like Nick Skelton to win

For me he has shown determination,

drive, passion and shown that anything can be achieved if you want it.

To come back to such heights after a broken neck at an age manhole have given up and to stand tall with his gold was SO inspiring.

Not just about sports but showing that whatever trivial things we moan about there's better things IF you put in the effort.

The Guardian article about it was good. Any team that knackered the bookies and got Gary Lineker to present Match of the Day in his boxers certainly deserves team of the year.

I know. I don't get it with Murray. He's a fantastic British player, obviously, but if he were American or Australian or another country with more historic tennis success we wouldn't be lauding that record. Mo Farah is genuinely the best in the world at what he does, and has been for some years.

I think they're all brilliant. They most certainly put in an amazing effort and I think Laura Kenny hit the nail on the head with her comment on being a super role model for young people in the world today.

The humility, grace and sportsmanship displayed by them all is something we should all learn from.

I just don't think he's well liked, so would never get the big public vote. Maybe he'd be more in with a chance if other athletes had the casting vote. The doubts around his trainer and drugs probably never helped either.

Murray has played his whole career up against 3 of the best players the men's game has ever seen and he is still in the mix for the top tournaments.

Can you name any of the runners Mo has beaten over the years? I'm a runner, I cheer on Mo like a nutter when he is racing and winning so consistently is amazing but he doesn't inspire people to pick up the phone and vote.

If the Olympics has been last week he might have won but people are swayed by the most recent events or something hugely memorable. Sadly for Mo running at a level that would have most keeling over after one lap isn't enough.

Sadly for Mo running at a level that would have most keeling over after one lap isn't enough."

Fair enough. I just really don't rate Murray as world beating. It depends what the point of the award is. I just don't think that, up against the others in that shortlist, his achievements are as impressive. I don't even tend to find myself rooting for him at Wimbledon.

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

Successful sports people tend towards the taciturn. Michael Phelps is apparently a complete dick but he did pretty well.

British people tend to go for fair play, not success. Obviously that's beginning to change.

"What a joke should of been Mo Farah.

And dont get me started on Leicester City ffs. Should of been Team GB or the Welsh Football Team

It's usually winners that take the trophy. Welsh Football Team won f'all "

Very true but Im allowed to dream

"What they did was great but no Team GB should of won it.

All those medals that were won in Rio.

The team that cost so little compared to the "top" teams won the prem. They deserve the award

I beg to differ sorry. All those Olympians who dont get paid thousands of pounds. But hey its just my opinion "

I wasnt comparing football teams against athletes. I was comparing how much Leicesters team cost compared to other football teams they competed against.

Anyway my opinion was on the winning side today

Yeah I know what you meant.

And as I said they did great and it was good to see an underdog win the title.

It doesnt change my opinion though.

So well agree to differ.

"has he got one ???"

Doesn't matter whether he has or not. The vote is for the achievements, not their actual personality.

Most serial winners are miserable gits by nature. The commit their whole being to be at the top, sacrificing everything (including a personality) to get there.

So how come just about every one of his rivals has personality in abundance?

Talk of this years honour going to Jermaine Defoe for his friendship and the endless support he has given young Bradley Lowery and his family. I think this is a great idea and well deserved, What's everyone else's thoughts on this?

That should be a pride of Britain accolade, not SPOTY.

It's admirable but it's not really a sporting achievement.

Should give it to Bradley Lowery and have Defoe and Bradley's parents collect the award.

Whilst the story has touched many hearts, and all credit to Defoe for his part in it. SPOTY is a celebration of sporting achievements, not human interest stories.

I don't know what pride of Britain is.

Being as SPOTY is 'personality' then i still think it's a good idea. Anyway lets break some rules (if any rules would be broken) and do it !

They have an award within the ceremony that would cover that... the Helen rolleston award

Anyway I have big hopes that this is finally mo farah year if he can do the 5/10k double at the world athletics championships in London in a few weeks time

I reckon with Murray mints losing at Wimbledon, Sir Mo's chances have gone up considerably.

Sporting achievements.

Apart from forming a friendship with Bradley, what has Defoe done to raise awareness or funds for the type of cancer Bradley had? Or children's cancer in general?

I'd live to see Mo win it. I hoped he'd get it last year after his amazing achievements at Rio.

He has raised awareness, especially for that type of cancer. As for fund raising, well we don't know but he could have done that.

I think it's childish behaviour but each to their own.

I also think the comparison you made is awful, insulting and needs removing. There's no need for it.

Joshua will win it, and deservedly so.

The shadows of being a drugs cheat will never be too far from Farah. That and I dont think the majority of the general public have ever taken to Farah.
