"Alistair Brownlee....... "
I'd love Alistair Brownlee to win it, his actions in the last ITU series race was sporting drama and emotion at its finest. Oh and defending his Olympic title. |

"..Gareth Bale!....he is a really nice guy, a great role model for young people, a lovely dad, ...and...fairly ground breaking this...he qualifies because he does actually have a personality."
and he makes a very ordinary Welsh team into a pretty good one
He'd get my vote too. |

Alistair brownlee for what he did for his brother the other month and helped him over the line and it meant he came second when he could have won. That's what sport is all about.
But I think it's going to be Mr No Personality Andy Murray for getting to world number one. |

I'd like Nick Skelton to win
For me he has shown determination,
drive, passion and shown that anything can be achieved if you want it.
To come back to such heights after a broken neck at an age manhole have given up and to stand tall with his gold was SO inspiring.
Not just about sports but showing that whatever trivial things we moan about there's better things IF you put in the effort.

It's a matter of perspective. I can't run for the bus without having conniptions. I'm not going to diss Eddie Izzard because he didn't run the most marathons in this event. |

The Guardian article about it was good. Any team that knackered the bookies and got Gary Lineker to present Match of the Day in his boxers certainly deserves team of the year. |

Leicester and Claudio Ranieri have been duly recognised for the amazing achievements of last season. Andy Murray for the incredible year he's had, probably the finest year he will ever have short of winning multiple grand slam titles next year. |

I know. I don't get it with Murray. He's a fantastic British player, obviously, but if he were American or Australian or another country with more historic tennis success we wouldn't be lauding that record. Mo Farah is genuinely the best in the world at what he does, and has been for some years. |

I think they're all brilliant. They most certainly put in an amazing effort and I think Laura Kenny hit the nail on the head with her comment on being a super role model for young people in the world today.
The humility, grace and sportsmanship displayed by them all is something we should all learn from. |

I just don't think he's well liked, so would never get the big public vote. Maybe he'd be more in with a chance if other athletes had the casting vote. The doubts around his trainer and drugs probably never helped either. |

Murray has played his whole career up against 3 of the best players the men's game has ever seen and he is still in the mix for the top tournaments.
Can you name any of the runners Mo has beaten over the years? I'm a runner, I cheer on Mo like a nutter when he is racing and winning so consistently is amazing but he doesn't inspire people to pick up the phone and vote.
If the Olympics has been last week he might have won but people are swayed by the most recent events or something hugely memorable. Sadly for Mo running at a level that would have most keeling over after one lap isn't enough. |

Fair enough. I just really don't rate Murray as world beating. It depends what the point of the award is. I just don't think that, up against the others in that shortlist, his achievements are as impressive. I don't even tend to find myself rooting for him at Wimbledon. |

Successful sports people tend towards the taciturn. Michael Phelps is apparently a complete dick but he did pretty well.
British people tend to go for fair play, not success. Obviously that's beginning to change. |

Doesn't matter whether he has or not. The vote is for the achievements, not their actual personality.
Most serial winners are miserable gits by nature. The commit their whole being to be at the top, sacrificing everything (including a personality) to get there. |
