When you you encounter a Walter mitty type character, who is basically full of shit, do you humor them, and let them think everyone believes what they say, even though most people are laughing behind their backs, or do you call them out on it hoping that eventually it will motivate them to stop |

I call them out generally, in private and with as much tact as I can muster. There comes a point where the culprit can humiliate themselves when they start to believe the lies they're telling. |

As long as it doesn't affect my life i.e. "quick jump in the chopper, I can fly one of these" or "Don't worry I have tied hundreds of suspension rigs before", then I just let them get on with it...... people get found out, another's kudos/ego/life is not my concern |

They piss me off, because, when I was behind enemy lines in Afghanistan there were a bunch of Taliban like that. I killed 6 single handed and shot the rest as I escaped in my blackhawk helicopter while satisfying 4 nymphomaniacs I had been sent to rescue.

I dont think they will stop so i would just not say anything, they can be annoying though. If you say you dont believe them they wont like it and they arent going to admit they arent telling the truth. |

Depends on my mood. If I'm in for a giggle, I will ask them more and more questions so they dig a bigger hole for themselves.
If I'm not in the mood ,I will ignore them
If I'm up for a fight I will call them out.

I was in a relationship with a dangerous liar, she would make things up that people could have been badly hurt by, you have to call that out, for the safety of those around them.
But if someone tells you they invented the iphone in 83, I think its cruel to encourage them |

Seriously though, I think that what might start out as a little white lie in some people's minds becomes bigger and bigger until they actually believe it themselves and turn into a "Walter Mitty" type character.
Re my previous post, I had a mate who had either done, or knew someone else that had done something that anyone else (genuinely) had claimed to have done. It got rather tedious in the end tbh |

I used to have a client - my first ever client, now I think of it - a speed freak and I dunno, I want to say fantasist because the entirety of what he said couldn't possibly be true but he was certainly highly intelligent and parts of his story were plausible.
Funny guy.
I was the first worker to get in his house in 5 years. Smashed furniture, bits of electrical whatnot all over the place, a washing machine in the sink and lots and lots of used needles.
He cleared a space on a stool and proceeded to make tea in a watering can.

I tend to steer the conversation in another way if the bullshitting is becoming to obvious.
The few I've encountered like this have been rather insecure / shy types so it's been their way of making themselves seem more interesting. |

My facial expressions and body language speak for me. I can't hide the fact from them when they bull shit.
They soon stop when the err? unimpressed wtf? expression shows. |

I know a chap, had a few chats with him, exchanged life stories and so on and so forth. After a while i started thinking to myself "hang on has he told me these little anecdotes before?" Then he proceeds to regale me of his uncle, who for some reason or another, they ended up calling him gorgeous george. Then it hits me, he's basically quoting his life story straight from the scripts of lock stock and snatch......what a cunt! |

Catching them out doesn't stop them. I used to have a friend that was/is a compulsive liar. We used to catch him out all the time. He'd just shrug, look sheepish, then carry on lying!?! He dissappeared into obscurity for the most part, but I'll bump into him once every few years. |

People sometimes don't believe I've done some of the things in my life that I have.
Then I show them the photos and videos...
But in the case of someone who exaggerates, I often give them the benefit of the doubt. People who tell total fantasies about themselves, I tend to assume they're harmless but keep them at arms length. |

Be careful as I've had this recently. Some of these people can be quite 'dangerous' - as in, once you call them out on the bullshit they can turn on you and you become part of the bullshit!
My advice would be to distance yourself massively from these types of people. |

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else |
I entertain myself by over-doing the believing of them - being fascinated and asking lots of questions that force the individual far far down their own rabbit hole.
If I have time. If not...
Smile and nod. |

After each lie they tell at the point where they usually get a favourable response,l'll just say..."Did ye aye?" with an incredulous look on my face n maybe one arched eyebrow for good measure.
They usually get bored pretty quickly n move on to seek some sap that will indulge their pish. |

I let them carry on and humour them for a while. After this I start dropping hints that I know they are bullshitting. But there does come a time I can't take no more and call them out. I really don't understand why they have to do it. But hey nvm.

I know, like I said before, I lived with a compulsive liar, she almost destroyed me with her deceit, but if I hadn't called her out when I did, I could have lost everything, and that started with little porkies, but then they have to tell some Whopper's to cover the small ones, and its a vicious circle that ends in people getting hurt |

I quite like when people embellish a few facts to make a story more interesting,I've been known to do that myself, occasionally.
Slight exaggerations are not quite the same as complete B/S though. Are they? |
