I only use public transport. It doesn't really stop me with anything fab related because I tend to meet in hotels anyway and I live near the city centre. It definitely stops me going to any clubs though, because they're always in the middle of nowhere and I wouldn't want to rely on anyone else for a lift. |

I don't drive, but Mrs does.
I use public transport to get to work.
Even if I did drive I'd still use the bus, considering it's only a short journey and the parking is a nightmare. |

Public transport is atrocious in Stoke.
It's not cheap or convenient. I don't use it, but Mrs N occasionally has to use busses to or from work when I can't chauffeur.
A 12 mile journey takes 15 mins in the car, or 2 hours on 2 busses. I know which one I prefer. |

It is bad if you're adding 4 hours onto your working day. Hence why I choose to chauffeur Mrs N to work and back. |

We don't live in the middle of nowhere but for both of us to travel by public transport everywhere we currently go would be prohibitive in terms of both cost and time. Also the last bus leaves at 6:30 p.m. |

I couldn't rely on public transport anymore. Working on building sites all over the northwest means it's not feasible.
Most sites aren't on bus routes and the job means I would need to be on a bus /train at 5am.
I'll stick with my truck.

As agency yes,you do have the choice whether to accept the job or not.
However, if you turn down any position with an agency they tend to not look at placing you anywhere else for a while. There are no regulations to stop them.doimg this and it's shit. I've also worked agency jobs and they tend to send you stupid distances. |

I grew up in Birmingham where the bus services were pretty good as long as you lived near one of the main arterial routes
Then I moved to London and the combination ot tubes and 24 hour buses made it a doddle to get around,
Now I live in Hertfordshire and the service is unbelieveably bad. There is a reason why in a town of less than 100000 there are so many taxi firms offering capped £5 or £6 fares during the day and plenty of drivers making a living from those small fares |

It;s not that simple though, I've worked for an agency and we loved guys like the OP who wanted to work and would travel or be available at short notice and they would always be the ones that we called first. Turn down too many jobs and the calls will dry up. And hiys like the OP we would always try and find a longer position whenever they became available because there dependability meant that they'd be the ones likely to stay for the duration of the contract rather than leave midway through |

Yeah, they're always in awkward places.
Realised I didn't answer the second part of the question. Services where I live are excellent, I'm very lucky. We have the Metro, and I can get into town and to work in 10 minutes from home. It would take me longer than that in the car and I'd have to pay a fortune for parking.
I've deliberately taken choices about where I work and live so that I don't have to rely on a car. And if all the public transport fails (e.g. when there's been snow or floods), I can always walk to where I need to get to. I could probably have a bigger salary or a much smaller mortgage if I worked or lived somewhere else but I'd hate to be stuck with a long commute.
Good luck searching for a permanent job, hopefully a local opportunity will come along soon and the work you're doing now means you will be able to show that you're reliable and dependable. |

Public transport (buses) are every ten mins throught the day and part of the evening and would get me part way to work but my dodgy knees mean that thats not close enough to then cope with a full working day plus the journey home.
Plus the buses stink, are filthy, make me very travel sick, are often full so i would have to stand all the way and seem to have an odd array of people that frankly scare me.
I love the freedom and comfort my car brings. I can pop to the supermarket on the way home. I can visit family on the way home. Plus its actually cheaper to buy and run a car than it is to catch the bus ! |

Living in London 24 hour transport. I have access to several cars if I wish but don't like driving. Reliable local cab service.
Unfortunately Southern "serves" my local station but London Overground do too, so happy days.
I meet at home so no problem. |

Yes we're similar, we could live somewhere a bit more rural or cheaper, but we like the transport links. Although I'm not a big fan of the Metro, or the peasant wagon as a friend calls it, lol |

The only time I EVER use public transport is the Park & Ride service in Chelmsford when I have to attend court (still in legal wranglings over my children)
The reason being is that you never know how long you're going to be sat around waiting. I've had a hearing listed for 10am before and not gone in until 3pm - and so if using a car park in the centre of town, this can be expensive as the price goes up the longer you are parked - whereas the Park & Ride is free to park and only £3 for a return on the bus |

as a non I have no choice but to use public transport...
it does make things a little tricky as there is no direct train service from my town, so if I want to go a bit further afield I have to take a 1 hour bus ride to get to the nearest train station, which is a bit of a bummer but cant be helped |

I rely on public transport, always have. It would limit who I'd meet on fab as I didn't accommodate and anything more than 2 buses or up to an hour by public transport and I just wasn't interested. Also means clubs are pretty much impossible.
The service here is pretty good, there's two companies running a half hourly service from round the corner. One's fares are cheaper than the other. The First bus fares seem absurd sometimes.
I get a taxi to and from work though. It would take me 10x longer to make the trip by bus plus the walking involved, and it's not cheap. I only work a couple of days so it's not economical to get a pass. So for 50p more per day I get a taxi door to door. |

i've had meets hundreds of miles away all done via public transport, it's easy enough with a bit of planing. nice day out on the train, i walk to the station as it's only a few miles, taxi at the other end if i don't know where i'm heading. yeah, make a nice day/night out of it...little holiday.
as for round here i dunno what public transport is like as i like to walk everywhere locally or within say 10 miles |

I never learnt to drive and still haven't felt the need. It's one of the reasons I don't do fab meets that often but when I do I make a mini holiday out of it since I don't like to meet locally. As for daily life I can walk or get a bus to work (I tend to walk it; it's only a couple of miles) but if I wanted to earn more money I'd probably have to learn to drive or face a long commute on expensive public transport to get to another town or city. Or move, but I love where I live and to get a house like mine elsewhere would be unaffordable. I grew up in the countryside and we had good reliable rural bus services back then but a 5-7 mile walk the morning after a night out back to the nearest town or village with a bus link was pretty standard for me and my friends. |

Okay maybe not a spell checker, but there are apps out there that spell wrong words. My son is dyslexic and would be very surprised to learn this chap is in the same boat. |

Wow reading this I would have to consider myself lucky as I have a main bus route and a train station only 10\15mins walk away. When the trains are running I can be in the centre of London in under 2 1\2 hours considering I spend a lot of time there lol |

Public transport isn't generally comprehensive or convenient enough for my needs. I use it some of the time.
Here in the USA it's worse than in the UK. I've been using it here and not a car - but it finishes too early at night. It's no surprise that some people drink and drive still.
In the U.K. it would require significant public investment to improve it to a good enough level to pull people out of their cars.
Should it be cheaper at peak rush hour times - when car use is highest? Yes. But needs state funds and increased capacity for it. Whilst we have thousands of deaths every year from traffic pollution, we really have to take drastic measures. |

"I only use public transport. It doesn't really stop me with anything fab related because I tend to meet in hotels anyway and I live near the city centre. It definitely stops me going to any clubs though, because they're always in the middle of nowhere and I wouldn't want to rely on anyone else for a lift.
It's almost impossible for me to get to a club to for the same resoun.
Yes we're similar, we could live somewhere a bit more rural or cheaper, but we like the transport links. Although I'm not a big fan of the Metro, or the peasant wagon as a friend calls it, lol "
Ahhh the metro is awesome. It's only the peasant wagon if you're going south of the river |

Spellchecker don't help all dyslexic people, as there has to be some resemblance to the word ....
But more on topic, I use public transport to get everywhere except when my OH is involved and he drives. If I go to meets alone, its on the bus/train/tube and when I first moved to London it was quite an adventure and how I know so many places. Very convenient when you have a memory for detail and can memorise bus numbers and timetables for most of London ... |

I don't have any problems with the OPs posts. He spells phonetically.
As for public transport, I haven't owned a car for 20 years and never suffered. Buses in York are fine, and I catch trains to various places for clubs. I can drive though, and can hire a car if I need to go somewhere a little further away. |
