This is actually a 'thing' with fivers.
The problem is people hang onto them. They stay in circulation and change hands more times than any other note before they get back to any sort of cash distribution and quality control system.
This is also the reason why you don't get them at cash machines. They are so withered and flimsy from over handling they never work inside the machine's mechanism.

Barclays machines give out fivers, well the one in our branch does, but its always crisp new ones.
I am terrible with them, will stash them in the kitchen ( birthday and xmas cards) still when I cant be arsed to drive over to a cash point, I always have cash somewhere |

i seem to get predominantly £20's then nip to the shop and come out with pockets like i've just hit the jackpot on a fruit machine ! |
