Telling Your Kid(s) the Truth About Santa
Jump to: Newest in thread
I don't have a kid but something pop into my head when I was with my niece. She was telling me santa will bring her present and I thought to myself.
If I ever have I kid, I don't think I can lie about santa. |

Kids at Christmas is magical, but there will come a time when you have to tell them that Santa isnt real. The only caveat I had, was that we (former wife and I) wanted it to come from us, not them hearing it somewhere else. |

I'm a bit sad that this will probably be the last year of tracking Father Christmas on Christmas eve. The youngest two have an idea he's not real, but are keeping quiet because they don't want to ruin it for is adults ![](/icons/s/sad.gif) |

My daughter is 7 and still believes. There's enough shit in the world as it is, I'm gonna let her believe there's some magical things for as long as possible.

When my four yr old twins came home from school bawling their eyes out cos a boy in class had told them Santa is not real and it's your parents who buy the stuff I found out very early that I didn't have to perpetuate the lie ![](/icons/s/eek.gif) |

"Of course they will figure out santa is a fantasy around the age of 7 I hope so." my daughter is 10 and still believes. And who am I to deny her that.. my disabled daughter is 20 and still does too.
And even the kids that dont .. they are not happy to say clearly he doesn't and its part of what makes being a parent of younger ones at Christmas good. |

i never lied about santa to mine. they have 4 or 5 christmases before they go to school with kids who are lied to so you don't need to pretend he exists.
i think it's good start to life not to make up imaginary people who bring you gifts coz reality isn;t like this. |

My son knows Santa isn't real. And he shut me up once. He said he wanted to write a letter to Santa, I told him that Santa isn't real. In response, he said he knew but he was pretending.
I shut my mouth and let him right the letter ![](/icons/s/2/cute.gif) |

Unfortunately older kids tell the younger ones. My son was told by a twat of a kid at school ( my son was 9 )my son asked me straight up when he got home i had to tell him. He was heartbroken. He was going to find out eventually I never blew it out of proportions just. I wrote a post on Facebook without naming the child. The child's mother called me asking me to tell my kid not to tell hers. I told her it was her kid. Oh she didn't want to believe it was her kid. Dillusional cow. Her kid laughs and tells my kid he knows where she hides the presents. |

Its easier to tell a little white about santa to a child then it is to explain why evey other parent lies to their children or why a fat man in a red suit has kids sat on his knee and getting presents when u walk round town. when you have told them not to accept gifts from strangers.
Let kids have a bit of magic in their life while they can they don't stay young forever x |

the magic never changes in this house, one day quite naturally before christmas time, i slip in that i think santa will be a little hard up this year and im going to give him a hand. in fact my older ones started to love playing santa for the others..its the way you handle it and how you perceive life in general, if you believe in magical and wonder, dreams coming true, wishes and such, there is no reason why 'santa' has to end, imo.. |

There and to the left a bit |
We very recently had a conversation with our eldest in which she fessed up that she knew Santa didn't exist and had done for the last 18 months or so, but up to the age of 11 she still believed and still insisted on being taken to see him every year even though in latter ones she was the tallest kid in the queue!

I believe it in it too. Love Christmas time and love the kids little faces seeing all the Christmas lights. It's the little things in life and if you let them they can be magical. |

Everything changes when kids come along, magic happens and nothing better than tracking the big man on Christmas Eve!! Even I start to believe again!!
My kids all know and I thought that was it but ads kids at least one still believes, which is nice but I have to get back into the whole deal now as it's been a couple of years not having to make up elaborate lies!!

I had a similar experience with my parents when I was a youngster. I can't remember how old I was but I soon realised Santa wasn't real. I kept up the subterfuge as I at least enjoyed the fantasy

Santa is mostly a high class courier in our house!
My 4 year old knows that mummy buys most of the present and that Santa takes them and wraps them, returning them If she has been good x |

I shouldn't worry. Many lie to children about the existence of a deity. Which can have far more long reaching consequences in their lives. |

Last year I got snow spray and a old pair of boots , Sprayed the outline of the boots all way up to the tree and into kitchen where stuff was laid out.
I will never forget all of there faces on christmas morning with them trying to figure out what had happened.
Let kids believe in Santa and all the rest as you are only young once. |

a quandary, could you change my mind? |
Father Christmas is real. He did leave gifts for some, his good work goes on.
Unfortunately it is the retailers who are cashing in on the idea of what was done that spoils this.
I know I for I am made to think that bit more, add more change to the numerous collection tins, hoping that it will help put a smile on a face, an extra purrr or wag of a tail.
Please let the Children believe, does it do harm watching the smiling faces on Christmas morning? I for one don't think so!
I believe |

I had to tell my 11 year old as he was in secondary school and I'll never forget his face, his middle brother found out the next year and he sat me down in the bathroom (no idea why, maybe so his younger brother didn't hear) he told me and I literally cried my eyes out!! My youngest I'm not sure when he found out, probably the same year as his middle brother but didn't want to say anything in fear of upsetting me and not getting presents!
We think ads little girl has an idea but his son who is the youngest of the brood doesn't know but the magic seems lost a little bit, maybe because he isn't mine, maybe ads feel differently? Maybe also it's because I don't have my familiar Christmas stuff around me this year? I don't know but I can't wait for Christmas morning x |

Ours are 18, 13 and 8.
The 2 older ones obviously know, but they keep it alive for their little brother.
I wasn't sure he still believed until a few weeks ago, but I feel this may be the last year i'll have to worry about santa. This leaves me slightly sad, but happy at the same time

I must admit I've always thought it a little odd that we spend hours drumming into our kids to not talk to strangers, not to take things from strangers etc but then tell them every year a total stranger comes into your bedroom and leaves presents at the bottom of your bed and that's fine ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |
