Funny

You've never boxed but you're going to have a bout!

Okay my bit of advice is to keep your eyes on your opponent. Keep you hands up. Dodge the punches.

Boxing not all about hitting , work the ring stay on your toes and let your opponent do all the work.

This is good advice. A punch starts in the eyes moves to the shoulder before you ever land a punch.

Good on you for offering to take part. I'd say remember it for charity and fun but that goes out window when you climb though the ropes

Get yourself to a local amateur boxing club and chat with the trainers. If they can't train you, they'll be able to offer some advice at the very least. Some gyms have boxing coaches too so look at those too.

You may be able to get boxercise classes at a local gym as well to help with the fitness.

If its white collar boxing they normally teach you and train twice a week. If you can try and get some extra training in, every day if you can do it.

I trained 3-4 times a week for a couple of months and then every day for 2 months before my fight.

Get yourself to a boxing gym and spar with everyone who will get in the ring with you.

The actual fight is usually 3 two minute rounds. When you are sparring do 3 minute rounds. It will make it seem easier when you do it for real and you won't tire so easily.

As you touch gloves, kick him hard in.his vegetable patch.

Seriously, boxing these days is sanitised and more about exercise than actually trying to hurt someone.

Have fun, enjoy it and raise as much loot as you can.

Sounds like you've signed up for a charity white collar night? Normally with these type of event you get put through 8 weeks training along with every one else that signed up?

You'll have some thing like 14oz gloves and head gear so little risk of getting hurt.

What you fight 3 2 minute rounds?

Keep your hands up in defence, keep your jaw low. Jab to soften them up. Aim for the floating rib to take the wind from them.

Move around the ring but never backwards. Try to advance on them as much as possible. This works on their psyche.

Remember Win, Lose or draw you've done a great thing for charity

Well done you.

Ps don't let heels fool you, Ive been in full contact fighting for 20yrs. Xx good luck

Just watch Rocky for tips. Runs in the cold, punching slabs of meat at the butchers....

My tip is hold out til the 12th round then open up with your best punches.

Or take a dive in the 5th and win big on the bets you've placed against yourself.

These matches normally give you 8 weeks or so training before hand for free. So get stuck in and I'd get some running done if I were you aswell. Make sure your cardiovascular is on point. Good luck! Don't forget, the other guy is also as new as you are.

It's very, very energy sapping. Unless you're fit, (boxing fit), you will be dead on your feet halfway through the first round.

I took it up when I was 30 and had no idea what I'd let myself in for. The getting hit part is fine.

So. If you want to win. Go for a first round K.O

Go batshit crazy and frighten the crap out of your opponent. Beat the fool into a bloody pulp in the first half of round one.

And remember, children's charities are grossly over funded whilst social care is grossly under funded.

Good luck.
