Hold down the circular ps button on the middle of the controller....
A menu will appear,select power options then select enter rest mode,which will put it to sleep but not turn it off. 
Oh aye,the button you press to select stuff is the X button btw |

I'm glad none of the stuff I have to deal with is quite as complicated..
Who would put an unlit and unmarked black touch button on a black case..
Reminds me of the Rock bands space ship in restaurant at the end of the universe...
