Cheap christmas cards why bother?

My brother sent us a cheapo crappy xmas card which went sraight in the bin, only his wife is always telling us how well off they are. Me and my son went there once over christmas and they gave us some warmed up Mr. Kipling tarts with cream and while we were eating them they told us that they had bought a load and put them in their freezer as they were past their sell by date and you couldnt tell the difference when you put cream on them, put me right off.

Maybe it is the thought that counts and tho I am a pensioner,surely most people can afford a decent Xmas card,as it's only once a year..I tend to agree with the OP,cheap Xmas cards ...no thanks..don't bother sending one if you can't afford it..

Perhaps they are well off as they look after the pennies.Why send you a card that costs £5 when they know come January it still ends up in the bin.

I have a big family so I've had to get a pack of 40 from Poundland this year, and I've had to be pretty thrifty with presents though my nearest and dearest have three or four each, and my god daughter has a little stocking as well as presents. But I'd be gutted if someone put something aside I'd put thought and feeling in because it was too 'cheap.'

i dont send christmas cards, i prefer living trees and ones from 'family' that have never met my kids and spell my name incorrectly, go direct to the bin..

Its only a card. An inanimate object that doesn't serve any other purpose than to let you know someones thinking of you.

So regardless of if it cost 10p or £10, its served its purpose.

And it would end up in the bin anyway, so what difference does it make?

No i dont moan actualy. It seems that people on here have taken my post way too seriously. I have bought expensive cards for my sister in law in the past because i liked to and knew she liked nice cards.

I can afford decent cards but I won't because it will end up in bin anyway so a waste of money in my eyes I'd rather used the £3/4 I saved on a bit of over priced card towards something more useful.

As for throwing it in bin is so unbelievably disrespectful. They didn't have to give you a card.

My 10 year old nethew gave me a pebble he found on the floor when he was 2 I still have it

I'd rather the extra few quid spent on their kids.

Nothing wrong at all with freezing cakes, bread ect it saves money and time running back to shop as often. .... have you never cooked something from a freezer?

Two of my aunts used to send each the same birthday card, back and forth each year, as a joke based on them usually ending up in the bin. It wasn't an expensive card and the cost of the new envelopes for each sending of the same card probably cost more in the end than getting another card.

OP, do what you want with the cards you receive but don't be surprised if people treat you as not worth more than 'cheap and crappy' if your behaviour indicates you don't value what is important about the card.

My best card is the one I stole from my mums house that she had from the postcode lottery people! Have you seen the card, it's got proper advent calendar windows that you open up to read interesting facts!

Sure any card is waste even expensive ones will end up in bin when Xmas is over. So if you Op would say about all cards I would maybe understand you as not all things is for everyone.. but as you say just cheap ones is crap.. Maybe you should just appreciate that you still have someone who send them whatever cheap or expensive ones..

I wouldn't spend a lot on xmas cards..be it family or friends.. amd dont get why them being hospitable and offering you cake makes for your comments...

Sane here. I dislike moon pig cards because they are not hand written but 8 appreciate that someone has thought enough of me to send me a card, regardless of how much it cost them. Focusing on money at anytime is crass.

We exchange no gifts, no cards, no fancy meals. We have each other and that's worth more than any tat that can be bought from a shop. We've grown to enjoy the meaningful things. A kind word, a hug, a smile, a kiss, a 4sum with a hot couple
