The main problem is not tasers its the fuckwits who just will not do as asked by police.
If a copper says stop just stop and why bother back chatting there is only one winner .
Yes I know there have been a few cases where things went a little bit wrong but on the whole people who have been tasered have deserved it.

"Police want to use tasers more and more. What do people think?"
I think it would be interesting to hear what alternative method of safe immobilisation technique the opponents of taser would prefer too see used instead....
OP what do you reckon.? |

It's ok they read it on the internet or in the Daily Mail, so must be true .... seriously folks there is enough legislation enshrined in the HRA and our own system to prevent this happening. Although in matters where terrorism is suspected there are 'acceptable' waivers.
... and tasers, don't always work. Drugged up, alcoholed up, fight or flight in overdrive and sometimes it ain't enough! |

I think this government will be very happy to rip up the HRA though. |

It's really that simple.

A large part of it was based on UK recommendation and a document (whose name escapes me) produced after WWII. It also doesn't undermine UK sovereignty (contrary to popular opinion) so I actually doubt they will rip it up. Despite what Daily Mail readers think it has a lot going for it. |

Police brutality - when it happens - is reprehensible and a complete abuse of power.
However, the individual officers I know extremely well aren't like that and are still mindful of their duty despite being asked to perform it under ever more trying and dangerous circumstances due to cuts - they are taser trained and see them as another resource available to resolve extremely violent situations (or where violence has been threatened) where people are a risk to others, or indeed to themselves, and where other options may not be appropriate dependent on circumstances.
They certainly don't see tasers as some sort of gung-ho exciting opportunity to be 'violent' and just want to do their job - upholding law and order, protecting the public. Of course, they face potential violence and hostility, even risk to life, every time they go to work and regularly risk both physical and emotional injury (e.g. PTSD, stress related anxiety etc due to the pressures of the job and what they sometimes see) .... not obligatory to join the police obviously, but thank god someone takes on that responsibility eh?
You can't make sweeping statements about 'the police' as if they are one great heaving mass of corruption and brutality. Those guilty of that deserve to be investigated and punished severely but the majority of 'the police' are just regular people who basically want to serve the community doing a very difficult job most of us can't properly understand (unless we've ever spoken in depth to an officer about the almost unimaginable and horrific stuff they encounter). |

And you need to take into account the roll out of body worn cameras to all officers over the forthcoming year. This will also no doubt decrease the number of criminals who were completely innocent and come from such a nice friendly background but happened to be picked on that day !
Misuse of authority is ireprehensible. But it's nowhere near as endemic as some lacking a good story media mediums would have you believe.
Never forget the human factors whilst sat on your couch passing judgement at the 9 o'clock jury.
