Just watched a documentary called All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace.

Wonderfully entertaining programme that wove together the novelist Ayn Rand, the Internet, Monica Lewinski and the financial crashes in the Far East and the West. Fascinating stuff, made easy to follow and mostly understand

If anyone is interested, it's on the iPlayer

"Not entirely sure I am up for Objectivism tonight!"

It was so funny when Ayn Rand was dumped by the guy she was having an affair with, her philosophy was all about everyone should act in their own self-interest but when this guy acted in HIS self-interest she went bonkers.

Very interesting programme. I didn't really see how it all linked up though

There were a few threads but for me the overwhelming message was about power elites and in the end, plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose

It was fascinating, and so good not to see something thought provoking shoved onto bbc4.

Agree that it was thought-provoking which is always good.

Good to see that the Asian economies are now doing so well. The programme, however, said that the IMF rescue was merely a means of western financiers getting their cash back.

The IMF argued at the time that the condictions it imposed on the Asian economies were for their long-term good. The IMF has surely been proved right as the Asian economies will soon overtake ours.

But where does that the programme's central thesis then? Going nowhere!
