Depends on the strain... But you can ease the discomfort with the usual... Lempsip, Vicks vapo rub, keeping yourself warm.... And plenty of tissues. Vitamin C helps, but only if you are already taking it. Otherwise it does bugger all, haha. The cold is one of those things that you just have to ride through unfortunately lovely x |

It has too many different strains and mutations... Hence no cure... But worth a try asking though! |

I've had this bugger for nearly three weeks now and it just won't shift....gone through the bunged up phase and runny nose to a persistent hacking cough....just putting up with it and having loads of fluids and occasional spoonfuls of honey as much fresh air and exersise at work....oh and a medicinal Famous Grouse after getting home from shift |

Yes but hard when you have a lung problem that means i cant breath when i have a cold "
3 weeks ago i got a cold. I also have asthma and for the last 8 days i have been struggling to breathe. Im on my 2nd lot of antibiotics and 2nd lot of steriod tablets aswell as all my inhalers doubled ... so i have lots of sympathy for you as its a scary situation to be in being unable to breathe properly.
Im taking regular painkillers and a cough medicine that loosens the mucas and helps me cough which is a good thing to do despite it geing painful and annoying. I am drinking lots of fluid and have throat sweets to soothe. I have nose spray too. I have tried to keep calm which does help but when im gasping for breathe its difficult. Yesterday i had massive problems when hubby put the Christmas decs up ... the dust i expect.
A good way to prevent the spread of germs is to wash hands a lot and also wash/antibac door handles frequently. Washing towels more frequently helps too.
I hope you feel better soon |

My asthma makes any cold/cough worse for me as it agrevates it. Also the docs don't give out antibiotics so quickly. Sadly for me that means i usually end up on 2 or 3 different antibiotics as the infection has took hold far more lol

3 weeks is a long time for the common cold - it sounds more like a chest infection to me, especially if the runny nose symptoms have stopped.
There's no cure for the common cold but you can help alleviate the symptoms with paracetamol, vitamin c and zinc, hot lemon and honey drink, sleep and warm baths and fresh air. |

Mines just cleared up this weekend, three weeks for me too, its been going about. Hot lemon helps the throat. So does tea with no milk, its a wee bit anti bacterial cause of the tannins. |

I have got a chest infection caused by the bugs from the cold which i still have.
Fresh air doesnt help me at all. It makes my breathing worse. Sleep is almost impossible. Time, antibiotics and extra steriods help me lol |

Invest in some Vicks first defence spray..as long as you catch the cold in the first day or two when you get that tingle at the back of the nose it works! I've not had a cold now for 2 years thanks to that stuff. |

If tannins help then maybe mulled wine will do the trick instead......... |

I tried that in desperation but it didn't work. I start using it as soon as i feel the start of the sniffles.
Trouble is my work place is full of lots of people who spread nasty germs and my asthma makes me vunerable |

Sounds like most of you need to get your vitamin D levels checked. |
