Can anyone tell me the difference between the amazon dot and the echo. Or are they completely different things

The dot is a subsystem of the echo, so you can control it from other rooms

Its always better to get the opinion of someone that has one rather than read what amazon says. They will hardly say they are pretty much the same and it ismt worth the extra 100
