So, a recent trend

So, has anyone else noticed over recent months, particularly on the television - i've noticed it during interviews on news programs - that many people are beginning sentences with the word 'so'

I find it 'so' annoying.

(Incidentally, the 'so' at the beginning of this post was put there deliberately to illustrate the problem)

It's another imported americanism based on "reality" shows that are in fact set up or scripted. The interaction is forces so there is no natural entry into the conversation..

A good example is watching something like "LA ink". Every scene starts with *person walking up* 'So...uuuuuuhh'

Media training...the word so prefixing the interviewee repeating the question before giving an answer,,,
