Had a check up at the doctors today and my blood pressure was way too high

I've been looking at the DASH diet and wondered if anyone on here had done it?

It looks like a perfectly sensible diet, an 'eat like a grown up' type diet.

Dash diet is especially recommended for people with hypertension (high blood pressure) or prehypertension (symptoms of but not diagnosed). The DASH diet has been proven to lower blood pressure in studies sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension). In addition to being a low salt (or low sodium) plan, the DASH diet provides additional benefits to reduce blood pressure. It is based on an diet rich in fruits and vegetables, and low-fat or non-fat dairy, with whole grains. It is a high fibre, low to moderate fat diet, rich in potassium, calcium, and magnesium. New research continues to show additional health benefits of the plan. Or try Google group Mediterranean diet. This diet is recommended by Healthcare professionals including myself.

I'm not saying what my blood pressure was, I'm too embarrassed, but it was high enough for the nurse to get a doctor to come and see me.

Have been given tablets and have to go back on Friday to check it again.

Definitely need to lose weight and learn how not to get so stressed.

Being told my blood pressure was 'slightly high' a few years back during a routine checkup was what got me starting a food tracker and then starting to lose weight. It's been normal ever since. It's a change in lifestyle rather than a diet and I haven't specifically gone DASH, more accidentally since it is a sensible eating plan.

One of my work colleagues swears by this diet

Stroking hatters hair may also help (well it works with kittens?)

Do you have a family history of it though? Sometimes it's just an hereditary thing.

Hidden salt is one of the causes too, in things like gravy granules theres more than you think.

Hope it settles down soon.

Yes, on my dads side of the family. He has heart problems and has a pacemaker now. His dad died when he was 56 from heart problems.
